Description Built ~1840 based on the 1836 patent by H.R. Campbell, Edward, then known as Design E, would begin life on a colliery line. where he worked until ~1860. Sometime between 1860 and 1870 he was disassembled, reassembled, modernized and rebuilt. In 1880 he was sold to an industrial branch line where he worked until 1899, when he was leased to the Furness Railway until 1900, where he somehow acquired the tender from a Midland Railway 2511 class. In 1902 he was modernized once more, this modernization gave him a new cab and vacuum breaks. In 1907 he was disassembled and put into crates. In 1911 he was bought by the NWR and taken to Vicarstown, by "Thomas Boylen", where he was reassembled and given a new boiler, cylinders, and was renumbered to 2, He entered service with the NWR in 1912 as their Mixed traffic locomotive. In 1913 he was Named Edward Longshanks, in honor of the Edward the First, King of England.
