Description
This is me, writing another book of story sonnets! My current method is this:
I generate a few hundred random images with MidJourney AI. The image you see here is one of them.
Then I look through them all, one by one, and see what they say to me. I pass by most of them, but a few jump out, and suggest a first line for the poem. Or sometimes a last line. Any line. Whatever it is, if I am inspired, if I think I've found a story, I start to write.
Most of the time the way I write means I will deviate from the original idea. I am both constrained and freed by the nature of rhyming poetry. Sometimes the rhyming word will send me in a new direction. Sometimes, when there is no suitable rhyme, I have to change my story to allow the rhymes to happen.
In the past I used inspirations from art I found on DA, but real artists aren't weird enough for me now. I am 100% driven by surreal, sinister, strange imagery. MidJourney gives me so many amazing images and it's impossible to explain how useful that has been to me.
My previous method was to generate 12 random words. It worked well, but I couldn't say 'give me 12 weird words'. I can say 'give me 100 weird images'. And from those 100, even if only 3 or 4 give me story ideas, well, I can always generate 100 more images. This one is from a batch of 300, which took the AI about an hour to generate.
I have no time for people who say AI art isn't 'real' art. Whatever it is or isn't, it is amazing imagery. It's a wonderful tool, providing me with inspiration for many of the poems you'll see on this channel. Certainly all of the last 30, which will be included in my next book, volume TEN of my 'Story Sonnets' collection, alongside 95 more... which I now need to write. As you can see from this image, the monsters want me to tell them another story!
