RIDICULOUS LONG DIGITAL CANVAS IS RIDICULOUS AND LONG.
Based entirely on that beautiful metaphor Cass wrote in Heartstrings about Arthur and his perfect standard curve (which I love love love to bits), with a little extension to that metaphor on Hika's part.
I... I have nothing left to say.

i use easy paint tool SAI
and i use... eehh... wait i'll check the name >.<
i make a linart layer
then i use the line tool :3 so i just conncet with the lines
and then i color with the magic want
(or selecting tool if you prefer that name :3 )
and i color

Ohh Paint Tool Sai! 8'D That's good then, I would've been very bad at helping you with any other program <-- doesn't use them orz
Uhm uhm... do you have a tablet? I suppose that's probably the most important variable here OwO;; I bow down to you if you've been using a mouse... OTL I'm rubbish with it. I'll provide two seperate bits of advice then C:
(I don't really use a mouse so... if that's what you're using I won't be as helpful, but I'll do my best to explain OuO)
1. If you're using a tablet
a. Don't line with the line tool on the Lineart layer OuOb (oi!)
The lineart layer is pretty useful cus you can tweak your lines really easily, but most artists I know just directly draw on a normal layer with their tablets. It makes your lines look more natural and all that. C:
b. I use the default pen setting on PaintTool Sai. Just in case you need to double check (pardon the fact that my Sai is in jap orz), see here --> [link]
c. There's a reaaallly handy part of Sai that makes all lines look beautiful 8'D I have no idea what they call it in english, but you can find it on your toolbar. (screencap here --> [link] )
It automatically corrects the shakiness of your hand so you can draw pretty curves when you swipe across your tablet quickly. I work with 12~14 usually, but the optimal value differs for each person. Just open a new canvas and try drawing quick curves by using your wrist to flick, changing the value until you find something that feels the most comfortable and natural :3
d. Once that's set up... I pretty much line with a 4~6 px brush with quick strokes, spamming ctrl+z if it's not the right line. For things like clothes and "heavier" items I do in a slightly longer stroke, pressing down where the creases are. Pen pressure should get you the variation in thick-and-thin lines just nice. :3
2. If you're using a mouse
a. Omg how do you live go get a tablet-*SHOT*
b. We'll have to depend on the lineart layer in this case, unfortunately TvT;
c. Your clicking is actually pretty good and smooth already, so I'd suggest using the "line pressure" tool to alternate the line thickness?
- It's this button on Sai when you're on the lineart layer: [link]
- If you hover over the line you just created, you'll see this skeleton like thing: [link]
- Clicking on one of the points and dragging left will change the pseudo "pen pressure" of the line. (Dragging right will make it thicker): [link]
With this method you can kinda achieve pretty tapered lines! It'll just... take a long time as compared to working with a tablet I guess. OwOb
