Larkin’s POV (3 weeks pre-comp)
“...I don’t know Larkin he’s a horse, you’re just about riding 13.2’s. No one here has even tested him out.” Megan stares down at the horse once more who was quite clearly unimpressed. He stood quietly with his hind foot tilted upwards and ears resting to either side of his head.

“Cas has ridden him and so has Tiger?” I tirelessly argue back as if he isn’t already stood tacked up and ready. “Not to mention the fact he has been a competitive trick riding horse for 3 years.”

“Cas hasn’t ridden him since he left for loan to start trick riding and Tiger only hacked him. I’m just saying he might be a lot more horse than you can handle so maybe I should keep you on the lunge?”

Arguing back and forth took up an exhausting 10 minutes before I was finally allowed to put my ass in the saddle and ride him. It’s not like I’m inexperienced trick riding - it would be different if I had to pull on him to stop and do other tricks but he’s voice trained. Megan refuses to stop worrying.

(Competition day)
Megan’s POV
The best thing about having stable hands to drive your trailers is that you can drink when you’re watching your child gallop around a small, sand, circle while upside down. I’ll never understand the enjoyment of trick riding, surly it’s just pure fear.

Eventing? I get. Show-jumping? Absolutely. Hunting? Well.. not completely actually but trick riding?? Why in the world would you willingly climb under a horses stomach going 35mph?

“If you die I will murder you Larkin, I will fucking murder you.” I warned as Fox boosted her up into the saddle and lead Lamorak to the ring.

“-don’t forget to win!!” Ah yes, my words of encouragement.
