Nightshade grew up in a small jungle village in the Leafwing kingdom with her mother, Evergreen, and her father, Stargazer. Life was pretty good for the most part, but a Hivewing she used to know always picked on her and told her that he was going to eat her, which made her feel small and gave her a fear of Hivewings throughout her dragonet years her parents didn't do anything about it because they didn't believe her because the Hivewing was a family friend.
When she was 2, her parents split up and Evergreen got custody of Nightshade. Stargazer left and later started a new family, but he visited Nightshade from time to time. She tried to live a peaceful life, but her mother started telling her that she needed to be a doctor when she got older. Nightshade didn't want to do that, but her mother wouldn't stop.

(3-7 years of age)
Nightshade went to school as normal, but she was often distracted the world around her. She never got along with her peers; she used to be bullied, but that quickly stopped when she started defending herself by threatening her bullies with whatever sharp object she could find in the room. It caused other dragonets to be a bit afraid of her. because she had a habit of always finding the sharpest knife in the room and would threaten the other dragonets with it. She loved being outside instead of cooped up inside a classroom. Her favorite thing to do was flying, but she also really enjoyed hunting. But when she turned 4, she decided to drop out of school and start training herself to hone her skills, in hopes of getting better at her interests. When she told her mother about this decision, Evergreen was furious, but she took advantage of this and decided to teach Nightshade how to be a doctor herself. At the age of 6, Nightshade's favorite thing to do was hunting, since it was her go-to hobby for avoiding Evergreen. It was around this time that she met a Skywing assassin named Amber. She spied on him for a few weeks, then convinced him to train her by blackmailing him. Evergreen grew more and more controlling as time passed. Nightshade learned to ignore her mother, but it still bothered her, and she began taking out her frustrations by picking fights with other dragons, getting her in trouble and making her rather unpopular. After many fights regarding her future, she was no longer on speaking terms with Evergreen by age 7 and began planning how to run away and where to go. Nightshade was no longer on speaking terms with her mother after one-to-many fights regarding her future and Nightshade's mother had gotten even more controlling about school and she still wanted Nightshade to be a Docktor, so Nightshade just ignored her mother most of the time. And now Nightshade taken on a bad habit of picking fights with other dragon's which landed her in trouble more times than she could count.

(8-16 years of age)
After a long time of planning, she eventually settled on running away to Isle Mezzo. Before she left, she still had someone to settle beef with- the Hivewing who used to bully her. Now was her chance to practice the skills Amber had taught her. She managed to kill the Hivewing, and hid his body in a swamp in hopes that its smell would mask the stench of the decomposing body. Shortly after, she began preparing to leave. so, she started packing to go there but Evergreen discovered Nightshade's plans to leave, and one last screaming match ensued. But Nightshade knew she was old enough to make her own decisions, so she left in the night. On her way to Port Titania, a flying accident sent her plummeting into a pond, and she got caught under some fallen branches and underwater tree roots. She barely managed to escape with her life. She sustained no lasting injuries from the incident so, after that her mind was pretty made up and a few weeks later she went to her great quest for a new life. Nightshade has lived peacefully on Mezzo for the last 6 years, and recently began her traineeship.
