Charles Dance is also one my favorite Phantom's as well.

Thank you very much!
Yeah, he is a wonderful phantom, the most thing I enjoy of his peformance is his sardonic description of the phantom.

May I ask, which versions you've already seen?

CatherinedeSilver In reply to GLyceryL [2009-10-08 21:41:35 +0000 UTC]
Lon Chaney 1925
Claude Rains 1943
Herbert Lom 1936
Robert Englund 1988
Charles Dance 1990
Webber's movie 2004
There are a few version I won't touch. Right now I'm watching the Maxmillian Shnell(sp?) and David Staller on youtube.
I've also heard the Tom Alonso, Ken Hill and Phantom of the Paradise soundtracts.
How about you?

I only watched the last 3.
I was kinda shocked by this Englund version...XD
How is it?
I've just heard the regular ones.
Is there one you may recommend?
Have you read Susan Keys Phantom book?
Greetings

Definitely the 1925, 1943 and the Maximillion Shnell.
The Mas one was better than I thought it was. It had an interesting plot and the actors were great. Not to mention it has Michael York (who has some of the best eyes ever).
Um . . . those are the one that I'd reccommnd off the top of my head.
Oh, and yeah. When I saw the Englund version I was just as bewildered. I never saw what was coming.

GLyceryL In reply to CatherinedeSilver [2010-02-25 18:28:02 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I shall watch it, if I happen to find some time.
Michael York? I didn't know he played in a PotO-movie.
Yes...Englund shocked me pretty much too...I didn't know how to react. xD
How in gods name were they able to produce such a movie?!

CatherinedeSilver In reply to GLyceryL [2010-02-26 16:44:19 +0000 UTC]
Heh Heh. Yeah.
I was equally shocked that York did a PotO. He's the Raoul character.
I did like Englund's red death costume though, very life-like.

GLyceryL In reply to CatherinedeSilver [2010-02-26 18:13:14 +0000 UTC]
I believe it...is he a good Raoul?
I'm kinda uncertain if I should like Raoul as a character or not.
Though- in so many versions he's just a eyesore. At least in the newest
Version...but the phantom isn't much better. xD
Yeah, that's true. It so reminds me of the musical version of this costume.
I loved his rod!

CatherinedeSilver In reply to GLyceryL [2010-03-02 19:51:54 +0000 UTC]
Well, in this version he's the director, so there are times when you really hate him, but in the end he turns out to be a lovable character.
A lot of people have been making the Raoul character into a puss of sorts, which really irks me. He wasn't like that at all in the book. In face, I don't know know if you've read the original GL book before, but the entire thing is almost all from Raoul's POV.

I'll try to find it soon on youtube, though- my life is kinda to stressful for the next 3 weeks, haha. Damn, I'd rather watch it.
Unfortunately not, but I'll try too. But, well, I don't think he is such a wimp!
Who would, just for a girl, risk his life to free her?! Non bog-standard, snobby, girlie-like weenie!
I so hate it...although the musical puts him in this corner- most of the actors are showing this kind of Raoul.
The only person who was able to reflect the "true" character, in my opinion, is Steve Barton.
Greetings

CatherinedeSilver In reply to GLyceryL [2010-03-27 01:25:23 +0000 UTC]
Here here. Steve was the, and still is to this day, best Raoul EVER!
I'm actually going to try my hand at ScriptFrenzy in April. I'm going to take GL's book and try my hand at making a true-to-novel movie about it. A decent movie where Raoul is the gentleman/rescurer/amazing/devoted/etc. man, Christine has a backbone, and Erik . . . well . . . Erik will be Erik.

GLyceryL In reply to CatherinedeSilver [2010-03-28 12:38:55 +0000 UTC]
Indeed!
He showed us, what Raoul ought to be!
Seriously? Cool, would like to see your working out.

CatherinedeSilver In reply to GLyceryL [2010-03-29 01:20:33 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I'm a bit nervous about doing it. I haven't told anyone else about it yet. I don't want to start, then not finish. OR start and it coming out different. OR not being completely true.
It's kind of a daunting task.

GLyceryL In reply to CatherinedeSilver [2010-03-29 11:56:59 +0000 UTC]
I can understand how you feel- since you'll sure have many expectations towards yourself.
But, well, if it's of any help: I'm sure you'll do a good work - if you just work it out -
since it seems, you really take your time to reflected very much about the whole PotO-story
and the charakter constellations ( and you're nothing like this mainstream-fangirls)
So keep it up!
Don't worry to much about how it'll come out- just start and well, you'll see if it is ok or
not. Since its a great process to work on something like this.
You'll do fine- and to be awe-struck is just naturally when it comes up to this story!

Aw, thank you so much!
If I wasn't in the computer lab I'd be doing some serious "aww" and "wow" etc. noises.
I'm going to do my best. I do know that I'm going to plagerize use what the characters say from the novel. I'm going to see if I can just leave the book as is, and make a movie. Hmmm . . . ideas, ideas, ideas. . .
When I see how it goes I may end up posting some of it here.

you're very welcome!
hehe!
Well, I'm sure you can't avoid the influence of the book...so just do as you wish xD.
Finding ideas is kinda harsh, isn't it? XD That's the most horrible aspect of making...well, everything what has to do with creativity! That would be great, you'll have to tell me!!!

Yeah. I started it this morning. So far, I've only got about a page. To get 100 pages done all I need is 3.3 a day, which shouldn't be too bad. If it comes out the way I want it too, I'll post it here.

Yeash. Stage managing is great. The theatre majors in the show (and some who weren't) were fantastic; the few who weren't majors and only there because that wanted a "round basis" were complete jerkes.
But, I loved it!
