I only did it because I wanted to see if I could write lesbians and that not be their only trait. I think I made it work. Not sure I wanna make a gay one though.... There really aren't any ways I can think of working that into a story though.... Lesbains working in a blacksmith's shop can be worked in but anything further than that I think i'd be hitting a wall of it being forced.

And no. They are 3d'ish characters, as far as side characters go. They have traits other than being lesbian and they're not really butch either. They work for a straight woman and none of them are butch. One's a stronger personality while the other's more quite. Not shy, just quite. Stronger likes movies to the point of knowing literally everything about them and is generally flirty/sarcastic and very nosy about other people's sex life. Her main skills are machine work/maintenance. Quite is part crystal pony and is good with electrical circuiting and maintenance of most anything. Though quite, she's not afraid to shout and throw her "weight" around. Aside form that she's content to helping her partner understand some of her simple jobs. (rewiring at most, changing a circuit on a board at least.) Satisfied?

I've made it closer to real world while not directly breaking cannon until season 5. Though technically all five seasons have happened in one year...... yeah I'll delay my trip to Equestria if you don't mind.
But closer to real world meaning, they're the minority and not seen often, not due to repression by the people it being an egalitarian society and all. I have my set cast and I really don't think suddenly introducing a gay character would move smoothly. That and I'm not confident I could write a good homosexual male character. I half did it with the lesbians and they were side characters.Â
