Twenty years ago today, some company called Game Freak decided it would be a good idea to release a game about monsters. In this game, you play some kid from some backwoods seaside village that just so happens to have a celebrity researcher of all things, so old and canny that he had you running errands like a gopher. Ah, but he wasn't a mean old man; to keep you safe in monsterland, he gave you one of your own and then sent you off with nary a second thought.

And the world would never be the same.
