This is an idea I had recently for these three. In the Sonic Ultima universe, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts were original prototypes for some of Eggman's earliest creations. However, they were proven to be too stupid, incompetent, and they argued almost nonstop. Eggman dumped the three in a scrapyard and left them. They'd be sort of a comic relief, with them trying to defeat Sonic and co. to prove themselves to Eggman so he'd let them back in, but they'd always ended humiliated and defeated.
