Okay, so this is the first meme template I've submitted in a while and it happens to be for a recast of a film. In fact, the first of technically four as I have a two parter for another recast of the Princess Bride and a Godzilla recast for Sleeping Beauty so look for those in the coming days. As for this one, I've been wanting to do it for a while since I love this movie (one of my personal top three with Godzilla Final Wars and Van Helsing) and I had this in my head for a while. So, onto the list of characters for the recast and why I chose them:

- Varan for Westley: Okay, Godzilla would be the most likely choice here but Westley is obviously a classic rogue archetype who relies on skill and intelligence which I feel fits Varan more. It really does seem weird as well since, given who I have for Prince Humpdinck and no one would believe Varan is the Dread Pirates Roberts. Oh wait, I meant Dread Pirate Ghidorah.

Yeah, Ghidorah would actually fill the role of the Dread Pirate Robert in this version with him having been retired for years and Varan being the newest person to take on the role. In this context, the role can be filled by anyone since they could inherit the ability to transform into a Ghidorah whenever they wish. In this case, Varan turns into Monster X who would fill the role of Dread Pirate Ghidorah during the first part of the film focusing on Buttercup's kidnapping.

I know it's a bit ridiculous, but I feel that this kind of power could fit well for a kaiju version of the story.

- Paragler from Ultraman Max as Buttercup: This one is another weird choice, but one that I've figured from the outset as well for a small reason. See, I actually don't ship Varan with anyone much since he doesn't really fit in with a lot of the kaiju from his universe. However, Paragler is basically Varan in the Ultra Series and...well, she really does fit for a possible mate for him. However, she did fight Red King in the second of two episodes she appears in and, while Red King did kill her, I feel that her willingness to fight that particular kaiju would fit well for Buttercup's character.

I know some people don't like Buttercup much, but she was very confident in things and really showed a willingness to not only speak her mind, but actually act as shown when she tries to swim away from the outlaw trio and pushed the Dread Pirate Roberts down a hill. Yeah, she's a really great character to me and I do think that she'd translate well into a kaiju.

- Hunter Knight Tsurugi as Inigo Montoya: Not my first choice for my favorite character, but I think Ultraman Hikari in his Tsurugi persona actually works here. For goodness sakes, he wears the "Armor of Revenge"! I did plan on using an Ultra for the backstory for my choice for Montoya for reasons I'll get to later, but ultimately I just decided to use an Ultra and Hikari feels like the right choice for that.

As to the sword that Inigo uses meant for the count, it's easy to just have it be the Knight Bracer and the Knight Beam Blade that it generates. After all, an energy sword would need to be crafted and an Ultra would make that easily which ties in with it being part of the armor. Overall, Hunter Knight Tsurugi wasn't the first choice but slots in nicely for this choice.

- SpaceGodzilla as Prince Humperdinck: Yep, this is who I imagine for the role of Prince Humperdinck and the reason behind the Dread Pirate Ghidorah idea. I know he's often seen as powerful especially in his final battle, but I never saw SpaceGodzilla as being powerful since he often had home field advantage against his opponents. So, him appearing to be more powerful only to be knocked down by those with strong wills fits for someone who'd like to appear strong.

Plus, the idea that SpaceGodzilla is horrified to learn that the Dread Pirate Ghidorah appears on his wedding night through a roar and then his reaction to seeing Varan become Monster X would make for a great visual. After all, even SpaceGodzilla would be no match for a Ghidorah.

- Gigan (Final Wars) as Count Rugen: Much like Varan, Millennium Gigan as Count Rugen was always who I pictured for this recast as he fits so well for the role. He would experiment on Westley/Varan with his machine while using his scythe blades to try and kill Inigo/Tsurugi after injuring him with his flying discs. However, rather than being stabbed in the left arm, Gigan will be loosing his entire left arm during his final duel since it'd be more dramatic and, well, fit with the anger that Tsurugi will have. So yeah, basically a near perfect candidate for a great side villain in an already great film.

- Alien Guts as Vizzini: Okay, so this one was literally chosen when I was looking for suitable kaiju for this role and decided to look at the Aliens/Seijin of the Ultra Series to see who would fit. Funny enough, Guts really does work especially with his design and how he moves his beak to speak. Plus, imagine Alien Guts playing the role and saying this:

"You ever heard of Baltan? Zarab? Mefilas? [...] Morons."

Yeah, Alien Guts works great here and it's rare to find a perfect choice for something like this at the last moment.

- Guardie as Fezzik: Funny enough, Guardie was actually my first choice for Inigo Montoya but he ended up being the Fezzik of this recast. Considering he wasn't an evil kaiju and actually did what he could to stop an evil Ultra that used to be his master, I think he'd fit perfectly here as Fezzik who is a kind soul in a large body. Plus, it'd make sense for him and Tsurugi to be friends in this context with Guardie wanting to do the right things. Plus, Guardie would get my favorite line in the film when you add context.

- Shun Chujo as the Grandson and Shinichi Chujo as the Grandfather/Narrator: Yeah, not too much to say here. Really just went with two characters who would have been in the Godzilla series and ultimately remembered these two. So, not much other than that.
