Description
Red Wolf for the Endangered Ark Card Deck, coming out soon! [link]I tried to get this as close-looking to a red wolf as I could given the utter lack of really good reference out there on these guys. To me they look very coyote-ish, a mix between wolf and coyote, but your mileage may vary. Either way he's very cute, and all full of character. I had an amazing amount of fun painting him ^.^
Acrylic painting on 5" X 7" Clay Board.
Original is for sale for $200. Message me if you are interested!

He's gorgeous! Love the little look of disapproval his face, too
Red wolves need more love, as do lobos- you hardly ever hear anything about them..

I love this piece! I've actually had the pleasure of seeing red wolves and their puppies a couple of times over the course of my life. You sincerely do justice to their beauty.

Beautiful! I used to live in Florida, one of the places where red wolves still live, so this touches me. They are such beautiful animals. Thank you for putting it up!

Quite amazing. The fur was really well done...it flows so realistically. And the way the colors work together...great job.

My favourite part of this images is his expression, as if he's just been disturbed but isn't sure if he wants to move. The colour of the eyes is beautiful. I agree that he does kind of look a bit like a mix of coyote and wolf. For some reason I always imagine wolves being somewhat shaggier though I know that's not true. XD I am always impressed by your art. I would offer my crits on this if I had any. Take care.

For having a lack of a referance you did really well. I have you watched and when I saw this in a thumbnail I knew right away it was a Redwolf. The shape of the head and the ears, and more so, the fur coloring and markings.
I've seen real redwolves in a Florida zoo when I was younger. A breeding pair, two of very few left that don't have coyote, dog, or gray wolf blood. What I've heard is that no pureblood redwolves live in the wild anymore. Though they're trying to reintroduce them.

Well it depends.. you have red wolf hybrids and full-blood red wolves.. the red wolf hybrids occur when a wolf and a coyote mate.. and they generally are a lot bigger and they look more like one parent then the other.. full blood red wolves look like a perfect blend of gray wolf and coyote.. they should though, the gray wolf and coyote did evolve from the red wolf! I think this looks awesome.. coming from a red wolf herself.

We were recently talking about red wolves in bio a couple days ago.
They DO look very similar to coyotes- which apparently made them very hard to trap to use for breeding programs. They had to determine which were coyotes and which were red wolves by their behaviors.

i can believe that you had a hard time finding ref. I was reseaching them a few years back and the photos the went along with the information was weak and badly taken.
Great artwork! I love the eyes and as you said, so full of character!
