Summer Laurent is 16 years old with a number of 123 and is a younger sister of Simon Laurent, one of the fearsome leaders of the Apex. In South Detroit, she didn't have a particularly easy life. She and Simon were constantly under the abuse of their destructive father, and their mother fared no better. She tried everything to keep them safe from his wrath almost every day. One day, Simon and Summer became convinced (and even hoped) that their mother forgot a promise to show up for Parent's Day. When they got home, however, her father told them the news that she had died. Knowing how vicious his could be, Simon immediately called Summer a liar that she would be alright in his heartbreak and ran away. Summer tried to look for Simon, but by then, he'd boarded the train and was already gone, being left to her father's care.

Since then, she had a miserable life to live, and her being transgender didn't help matters, either. At school, that made her the prime target for bullying as they didn't tolerate that aspect of her. Summer wanted so much to end herself. But Summer's life began to turn around when she met Kierra. She couldn't stand up for herself one day, and that was when she heard Kierra standing up for her, saying "Leave her alone! She is a person, just like the rest of you!" From then on, the two became fast friends.

One day, Kierra saw her father berate her at school, and she didn't like it one bit. She tried to convince Summer to stand up to her father, or better yet, expose him for the monster he is. But Summer stated that she couldn't, even if she wanted to, as it would lead to his retaliation that could kill her. The next week, however, Summer's father was promptly arrested, but it din't matter much to him. Despite his arrest, he was certain that with a good lawyer and a bail, he'd be out in no time, to which he would dedicate that time to "wreak so Hell" on her life. Summer became scared for her life and decided to run away before he ever got the chance, though she didn't have a clue who called for his arrest. But before she would run away, she had to go to Kierra to say goodbye. It didn't turn out like she hoped as they argued before she was told to leave. With that, the heartbroken Summer left Kierra before she herself ended up on the train.
