Description

My last of three reference sheets I made for Harlem for ArtFight 2023, with the previous two being Blue Bones' and Nyx's. As you can see, Harlem has an overtly more draconic appearance than the previous two; what with having actual horns and wings after all.

Just like with the other reference sheets, here are a few facts about them:

✨ Harlem is extremely reclusive and even harder to befriend than Blue Bones; acting incredibly anxious and at times even feeling threatened when around their own kind. This can often bring out their more aggressive side, especially if they feel cornered or are in danger of being harmed. Typically, they will always pick the 'flight' choice in a fight or flight situation first and it is considered VERY unwise to push them into 'fight'.

✨ They are unnaturally strong, even if they are indeed 10 feet tall and very muscular, due to circumstances Harlem struggles to articulate for numerous reasons. It is because of this that they get very uncomfortable when they have to touch anyone or anything; being another reason why they prefer to be left alone.

✨ To keep them occupied in their solitude and help them learn to be more gentle, Nyx; who became Harlem's caretaker; taught Harlem how to wood carve. How effective it is can very much depend on Harlem's current mood which can suddenly change and sometimes result in more broken projects than finished.

✨ Like all dragons in his universe, Harlem is intersex and has many complicated thoughts on who they would be attracted to (or if anyone would like them in turn); especially with their aforementioned issues. Typically, they try their best not to think about it.

✨ Harlem's mask and clothes were made by Nyx, and ever since obtaining the mask in particular they have never taken it off when around others.

✨ Their scars are very deep and have never been able to heal properly, hence why they are dark blue; resulting in Harlem having a very stilted way of talking as anything more than three words hurts immensely. Nyx has been able to heal the scars on their chest that prevented them from flying with medicine, but as said medicine worsens the pain for a long while after, Harlem has never been able to sit through the process a second time.
