do you think longtail stayed up all night thinking about how one of his best friends— and a cat he looked up to— was responsible for bringing those dogs into the forest?
imagine the feeling of resenting that orange kittypet for so long when in reality he was the only one who saw through tigerstar’s ruse. do you think he felt blind to the obvious?
if he had noticed faster, stopped tigerstar sooner, would his apprentice still be alive?
the image of swiftpaw’s mangled body was probably forever burned into his mind, and i’m sure he saw it long after he lost his sight.

i used to HATE longtail because of his snotty attitude and his overall change of character, but now i totally understand why.
his foundation and everything he believed in was destroyed, and i’m positive he felt immense guilt and horror at swiftpaw’s death knowing it was caused by tigerstar’s plan.
the only thing he could do was to do better.
i truly believe that if he had never been blinded, he probably would’ve continued being an amazing mentor to many other young cats.

i have a headcanon that at some point swiftpaw visited longtail in his dreams to comfort him after several weeks of grieving.
