Description
This was a freehand sketch which I produced last year for part of my art exam preparation work. I built the head up from a skull, adding the eye and features on top, to try and get a 'realistic' look for the proportions (as far as you can with a mythological creature).I gave the dragon a bit of personification with a humanistic eye, I thought it gave a sly intelligent look, whoever has read the hobbit and knows of 'Smaug' might have a feel for the type of character i was trying to create.
Produced with pencils and outlines with a fineline pen.

Personally, I like the "humanistic" look on dragons, especially on Smaug. It shows them as sort of more than animals. This is beautiful, So, so well done! The personality really shines through here.

i just read your discription...he reminded me of galuam (i forgot how to spell his name) more than smaug at first..like that was my first impression...but now that you mention it...ya...real tight man!!! you should airbrush it in photoshop!

I may not be mGee but here I go.... It displays excellent technical ability very unique and imaginative. I would have liked to see more contrast and perhaps a background but other than that good job Goochtek. BTW sorry I never told you how to make that piece I did I ahve been really busy.

Its things like this that make me realize I have no talent what so ever.. I look at the drawing.. see the lines... Think thats not so tuff and then realize that I'd never be able to make something like that.. Art is your gift... I'm glad your shareing it here...
