Description
Well, since it's almost Valentine's Day, the infamous day of love, I figured...why not make a little Valentine's Day card for my favorite 'coon couple, Ralph and Melissa? This adorable screencap comes from near the end of "Paper Chase". Ralph has gone completely off his rocker since he's been nominated for the "Small Town Editor of the Year" award, and is desperately trying to rapidly update the Standard as a result, to make the paper one worthy of winning the award (in his mind). Unfortunately, his manic obsessive attitude has driven all his friends and employees away...even his own wife! Thus, Ralph is left to finish working on this issue all by himself. But that night, Melissa thinks maybe she's been a little hard on Ralph, and decides that she, Bert, and Schaeffer should go back to the office to help Ralph out. They find out that working on the paper all by himself was indeed too much for him, as he's passed out at his editor's desk. He's not even close to being finished. But not to worry-Melissa (after draping a blanket over her sleeping hubby to make sure his slumber is more comfortable) is determined to get to work helping her hubby! So, the gang proceed to work through the night until the early morning, set to the tune of "When The Sun Comes Up". Next morning, Ralph wakes up, horrified at first to realize he fell asleep without finishing the paper! But then, Bert tells him everything is under control and, much to his surprise, tosses him a copy of the now finished edition! Ralph is amazed that his friends helped him out even after he acted so impulsively the previous day, and he profusely apologizes for how he acted. Melissa then rushes over to give her hubby a big, loving hug, showing her support for him-and her forgiveness, as well. Bert doesn't seem to like it, though, as he tells them to can the mushy stuff-there's a paper to be delivered!
I thought this image would be perfect for a little Valentine's Day card...it perfectly captures the love these two share!
Happy (early) St. Valentine's Day, everybody!

I was originally just going to post the screencap, but then I decided to add the text to it to make it a Valentine's card I think so too, like I said, this is a good scene to illustrate their love!
I know Ralph didn't treat her the best earlier in this episode, but this shows what a good soul she is when she not only forgives Ralph, but helps make sure her hubby wins that award
Not every woman would do that!
And yes, I know I've said it before, but I do think what I said in the description is what would most likely happen to Ralph and Melissa; their marriage would strengthen and their love would grow stronger

No doubt the couple would give themselves such a card like this one to show their love for each other.

I see Ralphie boy as the type to hand-make a card, personally...I don't know, just seems like something he'd do. In "Spring Fever" he mentions that he has written poetry, and I have very little doubt he's written poems for her before. I can easily see him writing a heartfelt poem for Valentine's Day that would probably make Melissa's heart melt

That sounds about right.

It's a shame I have no poetic skills (no kidding; I'm terrible with poetry!); otherwise, we would have seen some of Ralph's love poems for his wife...I can imagine his poems being outstandingly sappy, but then again, they're only meant for his wife's ears anyways I'm sure Melissa would be touched to hear her husband's honest and sincere words of love

A poem doesn't need no rhyme, nor reason, just something that comes from the heart.

Of course Still, it would be best for Ralph to keep those where only Melissa can read them...should anyone else like Bert stumble across Ralphie boy's love poems, it would probably be pretty embarrassing! Β
