my style has changed and ive always wanted to update ren's ref to reflect his style a bit better/ to saturate his colors a little more
ill update w/ an update description later (although he hasnt changed much from the one on his old ref)

pronouns: he/him (does not like they/them but especially she/her)

race: aliens called "the vai", informally called "angels" on earth as well
personality: the epitome of "resting bitch face". is pretty quiet and rude on the outside, but is actually quite soft and non-threatening when you get to know him. he is extremely sarcastic and loves to poke fun at his friends, sometimes taking it too far.
likes: lyra (neon boy), kagu (demon boy) reading, music, cute clothing, makeup, pretending to be a "bad boy" (despite being pretty bad at physical or frightening confrontation), being an edgy piece of garbage, video games, and eating greasy food
dislikes: humans and earth prejudice, loud people, stringy fabrics/fabrics his nails can get stuck in, his natural hair color, sweet things, and bugs

history: ren's parent/mother arrived on earth alone with his older sibling (who insists he call her "his sister") while pregnant with him. they immigrated to earth because of their planet slowly becoming impoverished. his second parent stayed on their planet and at first sent income to help provide for them, however slowly began to disappear from their lives before ren entered elementary school. their race are informally called "angels" because they arrived in an extremely religious segregated part of the US, and their long white clothing and stark white hair gave off an angelic appearance. it isnt necessarily a nickname that is shunned, however it can come off as rude to not refer to them as just "aliens" or "vai".

ren's mother preferred to stay within an extremely human area because it was cheap to live there, so ren was often one of the only non-human individuals in his classes. he felt extremely shunned and excluded, but in a way also felt uncomfortable around other non-humans because of where he grew up. when entering high school, his family moved to a more diverse area where he met his current friends and currently lives.

because of his contradicting emotions and thoughts, he often puts up a tough front and attempts to come off as cold. he's often in class with his feet up playing his gameboy, however he still does all his homework and excels. he really only puts his walls down for his friends lyra and kagu . he loves them both dearly, and has conflicting romantic feelings towards kagu .

ren does not wear pants and prefers skirts because they more closely reflect the clothing that the culture of his race wears. he prefers to dress more femininely because it is easier to look fashionably presentable this way. with this, he has had to have uniform modifications his entire life. he usually ends up wearing the girl's uniform, and tends to not really face much scrutiny from it because of his androgynous appearance. however, despite his race being without gender, he has over time identified with being a boy rather than a girl (which contradicts a lot of how his race tends to identify when immigrating to earth). he does not like being called a girl.
