Terry McPowell was a nobody punk living his life before he got into trouble after witnessing illegal arms dealership. Curious about a strange super-weapon, Terry stole it and got chased down by a bunch of goons. Upon accidentally activating the super-weapon, it latched onto him and rewrote Terry's DNA while simultaneously transforming him into Darkbat, a codename for Terry's new superhero persona.
