Also known as “The Creature”, “The Jotunn”, “The God”, or “The Bastard Daughter of Loki”. She is a Norse Deity that inhabits the forest of Northern Sweden, and is worshipped by those who live there. If you refuse to continue the ritual, she will hang you from the trees to rot..

She appears in Adam Nevill’s 2011 novel “The Ritual”, and then again in 2017 for the movie adaptation.

Moder will protect her forest from intruders, and will stalk any travellers who wander through her territory, marking certain individuals who have suffered from emotional pain. Those who do not get a mark will be tortured and sacrificed. And those who have been marked have to choose to either worship her, or die. If the individual chooses to worship her will have eternal life, as long as they live under her unforgiving rule..
