Description
This is the top profile in STOVL (Short Take-off / Vertical Landing) mode of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II, the Marines variant. I was able to use parts of the F-35A and F-35C drawings, saving a lot of time. The main differences are the shorter / wider canopy, STOVL equipment, shorter exhaust nozzle, and wider engine housing “hump”.
The markings I chose are from the F-35B Bureau Number 169621, CF-01, flown by Lt. Colonel Andrew D. “Grill” D'Ambrogi, Commanding Officer of VMFA-211 squadron “The Wake Island Avengers” currently assigned to HMS Queen Elizabeth, with Carrier Strike Group 21, on a joint deployment with the United Kingdom and several other NATO countries, joining the F-35Bs of the famed RAF No. 617 Squadron “The Dam Busters”.
Markings current as of May 02, 2021, only a few of weeks ago!!.
I didn't like the way the shading of the fuselage around the engine housing looked as it didn't blend into the fuselage, but seemed to meet the fuselage at a right angle. I had an idea pop into my head where I took a portion of the original shading flipped it and seemed to work to blend the engine “hump” into the fuselage. I wish I had discovered that idea earlier.
The wingtip lights, and some of cockpit details are photo manipulated. I combined elements from three different line drawings to make this. This is done the same scale as my P-51s.
Thanks for looking!!
