Description This fox had NO fear of people. He came within about 1 foot of me as he walked by. I left my car door open as I was in a rush to take pics. He turned to head to look inside, but thankfully decided not to jump in. He then went over and sat on this rock to pose for me and have a good scratch.

Since I haven't been creating anything new...or taking any photos for a while, someway may as well get some use out of it. Let me see how it turns out.

Stunning! I wonder if he was an escape or a release from the captive fox breeding prorams? Either way he's a very unique color and it's strange that he was so friendly! Thank you for the beautiful photo.

There seem to be a lot in the area. I'll be going back there in another month or so, so maybe I'll be able to find another one who loves the camera this much!

Thx for the comment.

keiko124 In reply to gregonometry [2010-03-11 09:53:15 +0000 UTC]

coalfox is a colorphase of the redfox (vulpes vulpes) usually only the normally white areas are darker, but there are so many different colors of the redfox+ mixes of those colors so sometimes it is hard to tell exactly what fox is what colorphase.

where did you find this beauty?

This was at one of the lookouts on Mt. Rainier. It had absolutely no fear of people & walked right by me as if I was a plant or something.

gregonometry In reply to Enju-Yanazaki [2010-03-03 01:41:09 +0000 UTC]

I wish I had an answer to that, but I really don't know. I can only guess based on region. Red Foxes and Cascade foxes are common on Mt. Rainier, but from what I've read this is a red fox. I've heard that there are some called Silver Phase Red Foxes if that helps.

Lucky~ my grandparents used to live at the base of Mt. Rainier in Mineral. Went up there a couple times, but I never got to see any foxes.

I left my family in WA, and moved to VA, and there are a lot of foxes here. <3
