Description One day, Great Northern had just finished his express freight run, which allowed him to have a break for a while. While having a break, Gordon came to ask him why he looked so different, and Great Northern replied:
"Back in 1945, I was completely worn out so the Board of LNER decided to choose me for Gresley's successor Edward Thompson to rebuilt me, Thompson also planning rebuild other A1s into A1/1 but it never occurred, I was continue to working until I was retired in 1962 due my badly worn out cylinder, but there is a young man who purchase me for preservation, surprisingly I wasn't the only Thompson pacific to be preserved, the man who also purchased an A2/1 named Highland Chieftain, an A2/2 named Thane Of Fine (which he was a P2 before rebuild into an A2/2) and an A2/3 named Edward Thompson, after being purchased I along with the A2s were having an overhaul to fix the problems that I suffering along with the A2s, after the overhaul I was a successful engine again along like I was still as a Gresley A1, for the A2s they were now hauling the express passenger or freights."
Just before Great Northern could explain more to Gordon, Great Northern's driver came to work, and he left to haul another Express Freight while Gordon was resting.
