Because most octopodes aren't vegetation. And anyways, it's a brothel, not a whorehouse; not just anybody can come in, and we actually charge for the services. Also, it's octopodes or octopuses, octopi is technically incorrect as it is the pluralization of a mistranslated form of octopus. I prefer octopodes because it's not as sibilant.
