Sadly the new prices for a core membership is out of my price range. I use to have a premium each year and liked playing around with its features. If I want to play with it again, I will just go the contest route since I did win a premium a few times that way.

I think its stupid to get pissed over something you dont need. if my subscription ran out tomorrow, I wouldnt buy a new one until my tax issues were fixed because they are more important to me than a sub.
people are making it as if being a core memeber is the most important thing, its not. DA wants to give people a title who are willing to donate to their site to keep them running, no ill intent in that. Just basic buisness.
but people are pissed because they want something and now they have to work more to get it.
Try having to work your ass off to get 4000 usd for taxes in 3 weeks. Im not rich, if I want something I save up and dont throw a tempertantrum like a child. Ill save up even if it takes me months. Took me a year to save up for going on a 3 day trip with my friend. Was totally worth it!

Ya but that's mostly members who do that, I've seen many artist give them away <3 but they won't do it if they can't afford it, because that's $100 for both of them; one for them personaly and the contest winner

Members/groups do it but contest is usually for the 3 month or 1 month which is cheaper than the year one. The anthrochallenge always has these type of prizes. There will still be contest that have them since some people do have the money to do them.

No, because you sold a rock for $50, get loads of commissions and sell adopts for high prices.xD I think thats a lot of money. I'm one of the smaller members who can't sell anything for over $20, so there's no way I could actually buy a membership from DA. Which sucks, because I was saving $100 for the 'hell freezes over' one. Someone told me they discontinued it. DA is basically saying that if you're rich, you mean more to them.

Well, you can say that because you sell things for cash very easily. I have to use the 'convert points to money' thing. And what do you have to have to do that? A membership. And what do you have to have to buy a membrship? $50 frigging dollars. DA points a one or two $5 paypal commissions are my only income atm. DA is really screwing smaller people over. Also, did they get rid of advertising? I was gonna buy that. ;A;
Work harder? No, DA is over-pricing stuff that seriously ain't worth it. I know this is an odd comparison, but there was an online RPG that was called Free Realms, and their memberships for three months was only like $20-30. And they gave you free in-game station cash for free every so often. DA is costing $50 for less added bonuses.
Trust me, I'd love to save for stuff, which I can, but income is extremely hard for me, and DA isn't making it any easier because I'd have to spend my $50 savings(which is all I have atm) on a membership, which would leave me no funds. DA points is my only income atm.

$30 for 3 months is actually worst than DA.
You can get 12 month core for $50 and they're also still upgrading the site, so there will be more features in the future. It seems nobody's reading their notifications because they already said this on the timeline announcement.

thats because ive been active and worked up my customer base for 10 years. Its not like I sat around and just waited for people to show up. Have you seen how much art ive uploaded? how many trades, requests gifts is part of that number? No because your assuming im popular thus I am rich. IT doesnt work like that. 68,000 watchers is just a number, our of them maybe 1000 is active and out of them maybe 5-10 prosent are customers. you are quick to jump to conclusions here.
The fact that the rock sold was way more the fact that 10 artists put effort into making it more than just a rock. But no one seems to care about that xD because you need to look into it a little more than whats just infront your nose.
Art is a horrible job to start out with unless you worked yourself up like I did or got super lucky like SOME artists end up like. Get a real life job, if money is an issue. there are thousands of jobs out there if your willing to just look. And a lot of people tend to say they are to sick to work, but there are also hundreds of jobs you can do at home in your own comfort sone. But people want it easy, and the world RARELY works that way.
I was far under my countrys powerty for 5 years. I could barely affort food at times, and guess what, I still saved up for shit that cost 50 dollars or more if I REALLY wanted it. Income was hard for me aswell, and sometimes it still is. Relying on art as an income is risky as hell. Because its like a up and down train week to week. Art is a luxury, and therefor people only buy it if they can.
Core membership is the exact same as premium membership. I havent seen any change so far, nor from my account or from any other account.
Being a core member isnt life sustaining important and if you dont want to save up for it to have some extra widgets then DONT xD as sIMPLE as that, stop being so sour about it and whine for dA to change it back. Just stop buying it. I do this all the time if they jack up prices on things I used to buy but realise I no longer want to use the money on. Its not the end of the world. Im supprised deviantart even puts up with all the shit they get , yet people get a totally free gallery to post and share their things on.
Its never ever going to please everyone, and the world cant resolve around every single individual, infact it doesnt resolve around anyone xD End of story

I've got 2,524 deviations and done all that trades, requests and commissions stuff before. I don't wait around for people to buy; I've tried all the advertising and such advice I've been given.
I actually can't get a job yet because I'm underaged. I got stuff I wanna buy and DA is the only thing I've ever gotten legit money from. There'd be no way I'd actually rely on it as an adult, because of the reasons you listed.
And I noticed that.xD I seen all the fanart of the rock, they were very lovely. I've tried stuff like that before, and no luck.
And didn't the core membership get rid of the advertising feature? The one where you pay DA to put your art in adds. I'm not even sure, but does the 7yr membership even exist anymore? I've clicked 'extend membership' but it just takes me to some page about what all that core junk is. I seriously cannot find where I extend it.
I know art is a luxury, but as a rather poor individual, getting my own money made me feel a little better about myself, and knowing DA bumped the prices with no bonuses just feels like a kick in the face.

When someone is underage your life is pretty easy, wait til you have to pay hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on things you didnt even know you had to pay for. Thats when life is gonna suck. So enjoy your youth while you can xD
If you do things and they dont work out, you just have to try new things. trends and hype usually change and not everyone will pay much attention to things that arent in those two if you want to earn a lot.
Im sure if you buy enough membership to last 7 years then probably.
xD Icould sit here and whine how I cant buy a iphone or a smarphone because im so poor, but its not the phoen companies job to lower the prices to they suit my need. just like dA shouldnt have to be cheap to suit all poor artists need. I think people are more angry at the fact deviantart doesn't put the money they get into fixing the bugs other experience, like a big one when your account unwatches random people, that's been a problem for quite a long time.
They want more money for something they don't take care of, I mean, I agree to saving up, and how it's worth it and while some people are blowing their tops I do highly disagree with their decisions. Though it's all an opinion

Been here for 10 years they have fixed more bugs than what people still complain about.
having been part of a job were bugs has been fixed, its not as simple as you all think it is, so I dont really think they deserve the insane hatred they get. Without money to support the site, there wont be any bugs to fix xD there wont be andy SITE.
people are so quick to hate when things doesnt go 100% smooth, Im not supprised the world ends up in so much shitty situations when people draw the hate and blame card faster than they draw the lets sit down and learn how this works

I know bugs are hard to fix, I never said their job was easy, I'm just saying that in the 5 years I've been here some of the bugs have never been fixed, while I know some of it may be out of their controls, some are still existent and maybe even simple. And yes, I know they need money just to keep the site up, I understand this, I'm just simplying saying that this isn't the first, in my opinion, poor decision they've made, and no I'm not talking about the logo change or the stars, I like them <3 I know the site doesn't really deserve half the hate it gets, but on this case, on raising prices, I don't think I can defend. I can understand raising the prices $5, or even maybe $10, but nearly doubling them was a bit of a jump leaving people stunned, especially when the community was given no warning, a small raise of just a few dollars might seem small but it makes a big difference to the amount of people who buy and gift memberships so the impact would be financially helpful.
honestly at this point I don't think people care to much if this site stays up, not even of course, but some have already left in the fact that this site is falling. But the price raise will hurt them more then it will help them.

Not all bugs will be looked at just as much as others, they might even be rewriting tons of code for all we know. It doesnt happen over night or over a week. and they dont only have to fix bugs. There is tons of other maintance, reports, and the list is huge. I would NOT want to work in a community were so many users were so shitty toward the creators. It doesnt matter how many times someone complains if there are more important issues to be fixed. I complained tons about bugs in the game I helped make, and some of them ended up being there when we relaeased it because you cant fix everything unless you have limited supplies and time. Which no company ever has. So the fact that deviantart is charging more, means they actually will put more money into doing things for the site xD WHICH is positive. But people want shit for free at the same time as they want it to be perfect. And thats never going to happen.
Deviantart has millions upon millions of users, so far 10-50 thousand people complaining, isnt everyone not caring that this site stays up or not. Anger tents to be louder, but that doesnt mean it is the majority of what people feel. When some time passes many of these angry people will calm down and see that they were angry for no reason, some will however keep being angry. But you cant change people like that, and they need to learn that the world doesnt bend at their feet.
50 dollars for customizing my page, getting some perks, and supporting the site so it keeps on going, is A Ok with me. Even if I cant buy a new one right away.
I could easiluy just rip and download movies for free, its super easy, and I get to see everything in epic quality, but I bought netflix. I like sites like that, thus I support them with a tiny fee. And netflix costs the double in a year than what deviantart does. Atleast deviantart lets me be here no matter if I pay or not. Netflix does not. BUT if netflix offered a choice to pay $50 more to see even more movies. Sign me up.

i know not all problems will be fixed over night, like I said in the 5 years I've been here some are still here, and again, I know some of them are out of their control, but some are not. and I understand they get hundreds of complaints a day about everything, which also doesn't help the fact they fired some people in the past while, which isn't on topic but ya-

Most annoying bug I know of is being unable to change my icon without trying 300 times, because the updating code for icons is probably all herpy, but then again. Changing icon updating is probably at the bottom of their list so I doubt they will even bother look into it. And im cool with that because I realise there are more important things.
deviantart is working on new features, did you miss the whole customized page thing they posted a while ago. just because they arent here right now, doesnt mean they wont come. The fact that they give you features for paying at all is like a said with netflix worth it. Netflix wont let you see a film for free, but dA lets you do 95% for free. 5% being some luxury parts for supporting them.
you dont have to agree, deviantart is a buisness and a commercial company so they will need to base what they do on money and that is facts no matter how many hate it x3

Yeah, I guess it's because they feel more loyal to DA (they've been on it longer) and can afford to pay for any financial changes that go on (they have constant flows of commissions). I hate how some act like they're above every little thing that could be perceived as negative whether it's a courteous expression of dislike or a rude hateful comment. They just act like they've been perfect and done nothing wrong and it doesn't affect them at all. *groan* I'm getting tired of a lot of the stuff popular artists put up.
