Does that dinosaur-like thing have feathers?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Conwant In reply to griffsnuff [2013-03-29 19:50:57 +0000 UTC]
Awesome! I just saw an epic documentary leading to the gigantic T-rex actually being a type of bird, with actual feathers and stuff. And that he could probably be the ancestor to the chicken we have today.

yes! many raptor like dinosaurs probably had feathers indeed

Oomles In reply to Conwant [2013-03-30 01:46:23 +0000 UTC]
well... technically not a bird, but still a dinosaur. Birds stemmed from dinosaurs c: Turns out scientists are trying to reverse engineer chickens. Guess what? They discovered they could make them have teeth AND tails because they had them as babies in the egg!
sorry to butt into your conversation but I have a passion for dinosaurs and I met Jack Horner (probably the most famous paleontologist of our time) a few times before. He works at the museum in my town and looks for dig sites in my state (Montana)

Aha, I'm not saying they where birds, more that they could be more like birds than reptilians. Maybe I should have made it more specific earlier. I'm quite fond of dinosaurs myself, not to the hobby length, but still enough to enjoy documentaries of them. I was just quoting what the documentary said. There are actually studies of t-rex questioning whether they had thick reptilian skin or skin covered in some kind of feathers. I'm not so sure what that documentary was named, but I think it was on national geographic.
I envy you for your meeting with him, he's a great man

Oomles In reply to Conwant [2013-03-30 02:34:07 +0000 UTC]
oh yeah, they're even closer to mammals than they are reptilians XD
I wish I could get back into dinos more, I was so into them as a kid.
oh, so you know him! I tell you, he's a very humble man and even better than I imagined he would be :3

Conwant In reply to Oomles [2013-03-30 14:06:30 +0000 UTC]
Same here, I was mad about them as a kid, but it kinda faded away as I grew older and started to do sports and other stuff.
I've read some of his studies. And he is mentioned in about every documentary about dinos I've seen.(At least I think I hear his name)
So he is pretty down to earth? That's a surprise.

Oomles In reply to Conwant [2013-03-30 15:27:54 +0000 UTC]
not surprising as he's contributed a lot and is a big name. I mean heck, he was on the set of Jurassic Park XD
oh yeah, one of the most humble man I've met. Not gonna lie... now that I look back, it felt like I was talking to a wizard XD calm, collected, and humble, but passionate as well.

yes, of course! I met him through a poster contest I won when I was in the 3rd grade XD And of course Jurassic Park was my favorite movie, ha ha!
I got this from the wiki page:
"Horner served as the technical advisor for all of the Jurassic Park films, and even served as partial inspiration for one of the lead characters, Dr. Alan Grant."
