Emberheart gained her lives from the family members who had passed on long before, as well as her former mentor and the former medicine cat of the clan. Emberstar found herself in a difficult situation to be leader in, as a drought was ravaging the territory and what little water there was dried up or was poisoned. She named Spottedstep as her deputy after an unusual delay in time since her ascension to being a leader.
