Description
I'm familiar with the lore and understand this may deviate from it, and though most people think this would be unlike the Arishok I believe it's possible that if Sten could have a soft spot in his heart for a non-qunari so could others. They're still people- I would appreciate it greatly if you could refrain from trying to lecture me about it- thanks."Hawke...?"
"Arishok."
"It is late- we rest these hours. You should return to your home and do the same."
"Hmf... it's a building I own, where I store most belongings, and spend some free time in... but a 'home'? Hardly. To call it such requires the presence of family. As of now it has no such thing. It is now nothing but a reminder of how relentless this world is when it comes to taking away everything I love and hold dear piece by piece. It taunts me now with it's hollowness."
"I heard about your mother. Do you understand now why we are as cautious as we are- we do not find enjoyment in all the choices we make, but they are all necessary for the safety and well-being of our people."
"I guess... maybe... I'm not sure right now... I'm furious and a little drunk and... and.... agh... I really wasn't looking for an 'I told you so' from anyone... I... all I need right now is... somewhere I can find the essence of family."
"And you came here?"
"Yes. The Qunari here have become like family to me... and you, Arishok... you are the closest thing to a father I've had in many years.... and you are all I have left, now."
"Hawke... I..."
"I know... that was bold... and I'm getting a little emotional. I'm sorry."
"Generally we do not mourn our dead, as we take comfort in knowing they died with honor. But that is usually because they die while serving. Tragedy is not death but a life stricken with grave injustice. What was done to your mother is exactly that... and it truly warrants these tears. Emotion cannot be a part of making choices that demand logic... but we do not discourage it. You've seen that even the Qunari cannot repress it- we feel sadness, love, and longing... perhaps more than others. There is no shame in expressing it.
But do not let it consume you... one can get so lost in grief, Kadan, that the fate of their beloved is all they ever dwell on- then that person dies over and over and all the things that painted them as great people are lost. Honor your mother- hold dear the memories of her that were pure and true and in a way she can live on through you."

Knowing that war is going to be waged soon, and that Hawke will likely be made his enemy, the Arishok finds himself conflicted with emotions and at a loss for knowing how to respond to her confiding in him and looking up to him as a father figure. But one thing is clear to him- she is Basalit-An, worthy of respect... therefore, despite what ever may happen in the next few days, he owes her the honor of sanctuary and the comforts of a family she lost.
Maybe this is one of the things that drives him over the edge- what convinces him that Kirkwall is such a miserable dump that something has to be done about it.

This is beautiful. Sten, though he adhered to the Qun, had a definite soft spot in his heart for the Warden, if one gained his approval. And now that Qunari romances, with elf/dwarf/human, have been incorporated into the lore...I would say anything is possible, Arishok or not

This is absolutely wonderful and awesome. But there's a "but". The Arishok would never be so protective, encouraging and empathic. I wish he would be. Nor would he call her "Kadan". More surely he would say that this tragedy was another proof for the decadence and rottenness of this pustule of a city and non-qunari society. Maybe this was his reason to attack, as you suggested. To be honest: in my dreams he would be like this too. Perhaps not like a father, more like a lover, but they are no humans and they don't act human.

I was gonna say this breaks the lore... but it is so well made and the quote does sound like something the Arishok would say....
