Another English translation I smurfed of another old Smurfs comic book story from Europe. Entitled "Les Schtroumpfs et L'Arbre D'or", also translated as "The Smurfs and the Golden Tree". As with The Smurfs of the Law, the original French edition had been used as source material.

Summary: According to annual tradition, the Smurfs put the golden tree in their village in early spring. This is the gilded trunk of a styrofoam that was given to them long ago. The Smurfs believe that the tree will bring them a prosperous year. They start the spring ceremony, but suddenly it starts to thunder. The golden tree is struck by lightning and explodes completely. The Smurfs fear that a disastrous year is now ahead of them. They see greater calamity in every bit of accident. They would love to redo the party, but the sty doesn't grow near them. Papa Smurf asks Homnibus for help, who refers him to two brothers. They grow plants, including the styax. The Smurfs receive a styrofoam in exchange for some gold, which they immediately put in their village. It soon turns out that they have been cheated: it is a different kind of tree. The Smurfs panic even more. To relieve the Smurfs from their irrational panic, Papa Smurf creates a parchment that describes a ceremony to rid them of desperate conditions. He tells the Smurfs that it is an old ceremony and they quickly believe that it brings them luck.

Their positive outlook is short-lived: Gargamel finds the village through the shimmer of the new golden tree and captures some Smurfs. He sees the golden tree and tries to pull it out. However, it starts to thunder again and the golden tree is hit again by lightning. He also finds Gargamel who is completely lost. The Smurfs lead him back home. After that Papa Smurf confesses that he has taught the Smurfs something. They realize that they were nevertheless lucky with Gargamel and their superstitions fade away. The party continues around the new tree.
