Description Interstellar Space is INSIDE our Solar System!  The Earth is 1 AU from the Sun.  Saturn is 10.  Neptune is 30. The sunlight there is 1,ooo times less than here on Earth.  The Sun's Solar Wind Bowshock is 123 AU and we found it via NASA's Voyager 1 on August 25, 2012.  18.1 Billion KM.  123 AU.  That's inside the Kuyper Belt.  It's also the start of the Interstellar Medium.  The space between stars.  The Oort cloud of comets is between 1,000 and 100K AU.  That's about a quarter of the way to Alpha Centauri, our closest star.  But the Voyager is closer to the star AC +79 3888.  That star is moving toward Voyager 1 faster than it is moving toward it.  NASA says it will be 300 more years for the Voyager to reach the Oort Cloud's edge.  Its fuel will be used up long before that time.  100,000 AU also marks the end of our Solar System according to scientific consensus.
Pluto comes closer to the Sun than does Neptune during certain times of its year.  Yet it's not a gas giant.  It is just like the Kuyper Belt objects.
New Earth-like exoplanet found orbiting star Ross 128.  Ross 128b will be closer to us than Alpha Centauri and planet Proxima Centauri b in 79,000 years.  Almost no time cosmically.
