Narrator: A few days later, Percy and Pinkie Pie were in the yard, shunting when the stationmaster came up.
Stationmaster: "Leave those trucks right there please, Percy, there's an emergency down at the harbor. The Controllers want you to go and sort it out straight away."
Percy: "But Toby can't..."
Stationmaster: "Never mind that, the Fat Controller needs you at the harbor on the double. Leave us to worry about the shunting."
Narrator: The stationmaster than walked away to make the arrangements as Percy and Pinkie Pie headed off for the harbor. Bulstrode was the captain of a barge used for carrying stone. He was a rather disagreeable old captain, nothing was ever right for him, and he grumbled unceasingly. The delinquents who hung around the harbor grumbled too, but they weren't a patch on Bulstrode.
Bulstrode: "Come on, I want to be able to get this work done sooner, rather than later. Why aren't your trucks where they should be, how can I be loaded if you dawdle about up there, eh?"
Delinquent 1 *groans*: "What's his problem?!"
Delinquent 2: "Two reasons: One, there's no engine and crew."
Delinquent 1: "And two, we can only go where our trucks are put,"
Delinquents 3 & 4: "Your stinky old barge is in the wrong place, not us!"
Bulstrode: "Why you!"
Narrator: Bulstrode and the delinquents argued for sometime, but it made no difference. Bultstrode's barge was in the wrong place, and he wasn't due to ship out until the next morning. But he wasn't going to let a little thing like that stop him from complaining. When Percy and Pinkie Pie arrived, Bulstrode, as usual was sulking, and the delinquents were annoyed with him.
Delinquents 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6: "Our stone's for Bulstrode, please put our trucks into the siding, so that his stupid barge can be loaded up, he can finally shut up and be rid of him."
Pinkie Pie: "Wow." *she whispers to Percy* "Never thought that I'd actually hear that coming from a delinquent."
Percy: "Quite right. Well then, let's get to work, and give these lot what they want, that way we can get back to work in Ffarquhar."
Narrator: The line slopes down from the harbor, Percy, in his engine, pulled the trucks a little way up the hill, clear of the points. as he stopped, one of the trucks' brakes slipped on. When Percy's engine started to push, the trucks started away with a jerk, the coupling broke, and four loose trucks heavy with stone gathered speed.
Delinquents: "HELP! HELP!"
Narrator: A shunter bravely tried to stop them but only broke his pole.
Shunter: "Drat!"
Narrator: The trucks, with their delinquents inside, on top of the stone rattled along the quay. heading straight for Bulstrode's barge, who was unsuspecting at the end. Bulstrode heard a rattle, and a shout or two, but he could see nothing. The first he knew of anything wrong was when four loaded, stone trucks shot, one after the other off the quay and into his barge's hulls.
Delinquent 1: "Jump lads!"
*the delinquents jump and grab onto the quay as their trucks crash into Bulstrode's barge*
Bulstrode: "Woah!" *he falls overboard into the water*
Narrator: But anything was lost in a gurgle as the trucks burst a hole in the rear hull of his barge, near his cabin. Water began to pour in. Bulstrode experienced an awful sinking feeling,
Bulstrode; "Save me! I'm drowning!"
*a harbor worker tosses him a life preserver and helps him out of the water*
Narrator: But Bulstrode didn't drown. As chance would have it, the tide was out, so his barge did not submerge under the water. The delinquents were upset at losing some ocf their rolling stock, but were very little bothered about Bulstrode.
Delinquent 3: "Nothing but a nuisance that guy was."
Delinquent 2: "Indeed, pardon the pun, but he was always barging in and moaning about his barge not being loaded quickly enough."
*several delinquents chuckle*
Delinquent 1: "Serves 'im right if you ask me, this time his stupid barge got that load faster than he bargained for."
*the lead delinquent then turns to Percy.*
Delinquent: "Thanks for getting rid of him."
Percy; "It was quite alright."
Narrator: Percy and Pinkie were kept busy afterwards, helping to clear up the mess. When the remains of the trucks had been lifted out of the water, he took them to the scrapyard whilst workmen tried to recover what stone they could. As for Bulstrode and his barge, When everything else had been cleared, his barge's remains were towed to a nearby beach, where they could do no harm. Now children play happily amongst the wreckage. Bulstrode, from a nearby beach hut is still grumbling like I expect he is. The children take no notice.
