History
Not much is known about Godzilla’s past prior to his infamous 1954 rampage across Tokyo. G-Force analysis of his cells suggests Godzilla underwent forced, rapid mutation as a result of direct exposure to massive amounts of radiation shortly before his first appearance. Based on the available evidence, G-Force believes Godzilla – in his original form – was present during the United States’ atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll during Operation Castle. Without another member of Godzilla’s species to investigate, G-Force can only speculate as to what Godzilla’s original form may have looked like. Godzilla’s rampage was halted first by King Kong and soon thereafter by Mothra, who used her pacifying spores to calm the dueling monsters and warn them of the impending arrival of King Ghidorah. Godzilla would set out to recruit allies for the impending showdown, largely ignoring the fleets of military and research vessels which followed his every move. Godzilla warmed to humanity before long, and G-Force would work more closely with their monster ally in the coming years.
Personality
Godzilla takes his role as King of the Monsters seriously. He is quick to intervene when hostile monsters attack human cities but is just as quick to respond to monsters in distress. Godzilla is first on the scene when the sea-dwelling Devonians or the Red Bamboo criminal empire ensnare a monster under their mind-control technology for nefarious intent. It takes a great deal of effort to make Godzilla angry. Those who somehow manage find themselves on the receiving end of a rage unlike any other. More often than not, Godzilla is peaceful, kind, and helpful. If he could help little old ladies cross the street without destroying the street (and the rest of the city) he totally would. He has also been known to act as a mother hen of sorts for infant monsters. While these misadventures usually end with the wayward baby reunited with their own kind, Godzilla once adopted a stray Gorosaurus egg and raised the baby as his own son. Junior has since left the nest, following in his father’s footsteps as the pre-eminent monster hunter in the Atlantic alongside the organization H.E.A.T. Godzilla also enjoys goofing off – maybe a bit more than G-Force would like. He can often be found snoozing on the pristine beaches of Monster Island, playing giant-sized basketball near his cave, or getting into hijinks anywhere else in the world with his friends. Often these hijinks will coincidentally lead to the discovery of a problem for Godzilla to solve, almost like an episode of a cartoon, so G-Force lets it slide (not that they could do anything about it if they wanted to).
Powers/Abilities
Atomic Breath: One of Godzilla’s most iconic powers is his atomic breath. This stream of blue radioactive fire erupts from Godzilla’s mouth with enough concussive force to topple buildings and is hot enough to melt concrete and titanium. Godzilla’s head and neck are thickly muscled to withstand the (little “g”) g-forces generated by this attack. Very few monsters possess hides capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to Godzilla’s atomic breath. Godzilla once used this power to fly, chasing after Hedorah as it attempted to escape battle. The collateral damage caused by Godzilla was almost as bad as that done by Hedorah. Dozens of lawsuits resulted in the United Nations Security Council to impose an internationally accepted ban on the use of Godzilla’s atomic breath as a means of flight. While direct exposure to the radiation of this attack is lethal to humans, monster radiation has a very short half-life. Monster battlegrounds are fit for human occupation and habitation within a month of the conflict. Regardless, Godzilla makes his best effort to move battles away from populated areas when he can, and only uses his atomic breath if no unshielded humans are in the area.
Strength: Even by monster standards, Godzilla has impressive levels of physical strength. He is capable of lifting Anguirus – a monster easily as heavy as Godzilla – by the tail and wielding him like a massive flail. His strength comes in handy during search and rescue operations – Godzilla can lift large sections of debris quickly, and his thumbed hands give him human-levels of dexterity. Many hostile monsters possess hides and carapaces which negate the sheer power Godzilla’s physical attacks, but he is still able to use his strength in battle to get the upper hand in surprising ways.
Tail: Godzilla's tail is prehensile, and he uses it often as an extra appendage like a colossal green spider monkey. It gives him an upper hand in combat against enemies who aren't prepared; for example, his tail is capable of supporting his entire body weight for short periods of time, freeing up his legs for powerful kicks like Gorosaurus, or allowing him to slide-tackle an enemy from a distance. Godzilla can also use it to secure leverage on difficult terrain. It's hard to get accurate measurements on most monsters, but Godzilla has been under near-constant surveillance since his debut in 1954. Those responsible for observing the King of the Monsters swear his tail is getting longer...
Intelligence: Godzilla is smarter than most other monsters, to the point where some researchers believe he has near-human intelligence. He is capable of complex problem solving and strategizing far beyond the abilities of his kin. He even seems to understand some human words and sign language. Godzilla has a penchant for combat, and he has displayed recognizable fighting tactics from a number of disciplines ranging from boxing to tai chi. He has been known to spar with King Caesar, who appears to enjoy teaching his pupil the art of combat. Godzilla has been known to blend techniques from different fighting styles together while adding some personal touches for an added advantage, like using his tail and spines. Thanks to Godzilla's intelligence, perhaps his most useful - and the most unusual - ability is to negotiate and reason with other monsters. He isn't always successful, but if given the chance, he will always try.
Amphibious: Godzilla has very well hidden and protected gills alongside his neck which allow him to breathe underwater. He can remain underwater indefinitely and, although he spends most of his time in oceanic salt water, Godzilla's gills work in fresh water as well, if not as efficiently. Although Godzilla is a fast swimmer, he is not very coordinated under water and loses some of his combat prowess. His atomic breath doesn't work underwater, creating superheated, radioactive steam and boiling bubbles instead of fire, and in a much shorter range. Despite these setbacks, Godzilla's amphibious nature grants him easy access to the cavernous tunnels which lead to the mysterious Hollow Earth and its networks of caves which allow him to quickly reach almost anywhere on the planet.
Regeneration/Durability: Godzilla’s hide is as tough as most enemies he faces. It is impervious to traditional ballistic weaponry and is resistant to slashing and piercing attacks from monsters. It is not uncommon, however, for Godzilla to sustain injuries in battle. Unlike his friends, who have standing post-battle checkups with Dr. Jaguar, Godzilla’s body possesses the Organizer G-1 cell (also called the Titan Cell by Monarch). Organizer G-1 cells rapidly repair damage to Godzilla’s body and act as a secondary immune system, protecting him against disease and blood-borne parasites. Several other monsters carry this cell, though they do not appear to have any readily apparent connection to Godzilla.
***
Godzilla is a force to be reckoned with alone, but he is unstoppable when his friends are at his side.
