Description
Because of the ongoing maintenance of the York, the chief engineer could only spare a few technicians for the repairs of the Saratoga. Thanks to the preparations of the previous day, the hangar door could be opened from the outside.
A first measurement aboard showed that the radiation was still increased, but no longer life-threatening.
After unloading all the necessary parts, the technicians immediately got to work.
Meanwhile, Shepard remained in the shuttle bay. Despite the differences to Normandy, the sight brought back memories. In her mind's eye she saw Garrus busy with calibrations as usual and Ash disassembling her weapon.
'Feels like an eternity,' flashed through her mind.
Back to the present, Shepard looked around. On closer inspection she saw that the remaining shuttle was anything but capable of flying. Besides many dents and scratches, one of the drive units was missing. It reminded her a bit of the shuttle Vega had flown.
Apart from a lot of empty lockers, there was nothing else noticeable here.
After a short stop in the engine room it was clear that it would take several hours before they could try to restart the main reactor. Kayla wanted to make good use of the time and continue looking around the ship.
Like the day before, it was due to the lack of power necessary to climb through the maintenance shafts to get from the engine deck to the crew deck.
Shepard first went to the Captain's quarters hoping to get some clues about what happened.
The cabin looked a bit chaotic. Probably a consequence of the attack. At least some handwritten notes were found next to some data pads.
The Saratoga seemed to be an advanced prototype based on the Normandy. According to some technical data especially the engine and stealth characteristics should have been improved significantly.
Apparently the ship was on a test flight and the crew consisted only of a hull crew, some engineers and technicians. Altogether just ten people. According to the time index the flight was at about the time Shepard was suspended and arrested.
Unfortunately, no more recent data was found to explain how the ship had been stranded here and what happened to the crew.
There was still hope that the onboard computer and the databases were intact and could contribute to the clarification.
