Description
Busy with 3D anim that's what.So yeah, this is what I've been working on the past month or so. Before anyone asks, I'll answer some possible questions people will ask:
"Why does it look soo blocky???"
A: I went for the low poly route due to the time we were given. So I thought why not make a low poly model in the style of Dreamcast models?
"Something doesn't look right with i-"
A: It isn't finished yet. I'll tweak it later down the road or when I get into the next 3D Anim class for next term.
"Why are the textures so simple looking?"
A: I'm planning to cell shade this later down the road, because I want it to look 2D. The textures were drawn by hand too.
"Who is this character?"
A: A fairly new one designed for this purpose, Their name is Kiley. I'll provide a proper description of who they are in the drawing I did for the class.
So yeah. I've been doodling outside of this here and there but mostly on paper. And me being me, I'm experimenting on a few things, now on the shading color.
That's about it, I thought I might as well upload this since people will think that "I'm dead." or have moved on to just drawing kinky shit.

Well you're not too far off. The character was inspired from a few characters, one of them being Klonoa. Atleast the appearance he has in the first game.

It's going to be the case of motivation again if you're expecting me to do more of these low poly models. And I'm pretty surprised you also have a thing a for low poly models.

Very nice! Always great to see other artists move from 2D to 3D, and I'm glad you're still around since I <3 your art!!

Thanks. I'm not really moving from 2D to 3D, this is just a thing for the class I might end up tweaking later down the road when everything is done. 2D is still my love, since 3D is like making a puppet for stop-motion animation and animating it, but you have a non cooperative digital tool/program in between, which gets utterly frustrating.

I see, I recommend joining Sketchfab, probably the best website for sharing your models. I won't be giving up my 2D art either, but I'm definitely pushing more toward improving my 3D art rather than my 2D art. Here's my gallery sketchfab.com/alexmagnei

I'll think about it. But thanks anyway.
I notice all of your models have no "bendy straw" joints. And I'm guessing you use cylinders for your heads?

Huh, well first of all I never make characters with "bendy straw" type limbs, I'm a stickler for anatomy even if I don't draw muscles on my characters. Also the heads are made by creating flat polygons and pulling out from the edges, I guess the end effect is a tad cylindrical.

I see, are you going to animate these later down the road? Or are they just purely for fun? Since having those bendy straw area on part the bend (like elbows and knees) do help a lot if you're gonna animate these. Ahh, I see. I've always done the cube method and just shaping it to the ref picture used by pulling and adjusting the vertices.

Oh yeah, well not necessarily the models here, but in actual fact several of these are my VRChat avatars, which are animated automatically using a website called Mixamo. And yeah, I'm not really interested in the cartoony noodle-style limbs, that's just not for me.

Ahhh....I see. I don't know, to me it seems like you're cheating if you use Maximo. But hey, that's just me. And cartoony style? If you're talking about the "bendy straw" bits, those are used on a lot of the models you see in games and animation. Not just purely for "Cartoony" style. Since it helps the model bend in the areas that have these and not cause awkwardness when bits like the elbows, knees etc. bend. But, you do you man.

Yeah, well it kinda is but hey it stops me from getting fed up with it, I'm the kinda guy who will happily take shortcuts if they are available, that's why I don't choose to do this stuff professionally.
