wheres the other end of her sword? you drew a fairly big handle that looks like it would be connected to a big slab of metal becasue how long it is. but there isnt one continuing on her right side. its not in the position fo be fore-shortened either... a daggar?

Yeah It's a dagger. You can see a little bit of it extending on the other side behind her hand. Though i think you're right when you say the handle is a little too long

When you do art like this, how do you actually start? I'm just wondering cause it would be easier once you have the basic look of it to add detail.

basicly I start with the general shading by pencil on the darker parts and use the blending stump alone for lighter spots. So pretty much get your basic shading and tones down first before touching it up with darker shades and highlights.
