In an Alternate Universe version of The Succubus Hunt, where the Succubi can enter fictional worlds and interact with the characters themselves, it turns out trying to fulfill Fleet's request of being her replacement while she does Rivals 2 and other adventures outside of Julesvale was alot harder to keep than turning into her... at least being mistaken as a cousin is better than being outed as a fake.
This situation is basically my way of saying that the Real Fleet and Meri are not only different but will have their own comics here and there featuring themselves as well as hanging out with each other in this AU where it wouldn't be possible. Fleet is in another universe entirely and that universe is just a fictional thing in Meri's world, which resembles our world than anything else. Although it is an interesting concept if demons can talk to fictional characters within their own worlds since there are stories here and there with them possessing games, books, and other items that contain fictional media. It's just that in most of those stories it's just the demon corrupting the source for it's own goals to trap their victims. I don't think there's any concept where the fictional world is entirely it's own location rather than a part of one.
I toyed with the concept before with 88 being Super Boss to the Chai and the others for Hi-Fi Rush, but now this concept will be explored fully in this Alternate Universe where Meri and Fleet become friends. In Canon, Fleet will appear in Rivals of Aether 2 because she decides to leave Julesvale after saving it, to paraphrase her own words, "to find some other rivals." Apparently she actually leaves the place to Ayala and let her hold the fort down while goes around to Aether 2 stuff, but what if she met Meri before she decides to leave?
In this AU, while Fleet went through some significant character growth in her debut game, I think she's still a bit "out there" in her own head at times. So because of that fact, Fleet somewhat kind of threw this job on Meri before she had proper preparation leaving Ayala to help guide Meri a bit in her new job as Fleet's Stand In. But as you can see in this image, everyone else figured it out really quickly but in a strange quirk, it took Meri awhile to figure out that everyone else knew about her from the start. But because Meri was so earnest, nice, and helpful, which includes doing "meaningless jobs" from time to time, most of the citizens decided to play along with her "deception" until she was confronted with the unfortunate truth herself one day.
Now let's move onto the obvious differences and why they're here when she should've been just Fleet from the start anyway. That note by the text box doesn't mean just their feet though it actually explains the very reason why Meri is so different from the Real Fleet in the first place. That's because for the sake of both Canons of the AU and the real Succubus verse, Meri turned into Fleet before I learned anything about her, so here's a quick summary of Meri's difference from Fleet.
1. Meri's yellow eyes and breasts are still there because of her plan of Fleet Week of overtaking my mental image of Fleet with herself. You can tell that she pretty much succeeded in that, especially since she can only turn into Fleet if someone, namely me, was interested in Fleet in the first place. Although in this AU, this is before she did her Fleet Week in the first place.
2. Her raised tail is because she spent most of her time in cat forms in with raised tails all the time so it kinda stuck with her that it's the default position when that shouldn't be the case for canines like Fleet. Fleet's tail will only raise when expressing certain emotions not when she's relaxed.
3. The reason her feet are so different from Fleet's besides my preference of anthro characters having 3 toes and in the game she has 3 toes in her sprite, is that I was actually confused by her foot wear and how it is shaped. There are Aether characters with Digitigrade feet and I just assumed Fleet was one of them, it took me a while to realized that Fleet's feet is actually Plantigrade instead.
One last thing to note is that the reason I had the text box and stuff set up the way they did is because I kinda wanted a bit of a cross over feel to and somewhat make it seem like Meri's presence is causing characters to slowly stop talking through text boxes to word balloons now. Almost she's making them real or something like that. It's just a style thing after all and thought it would look neat, and I'm grateful Frezezyk for making part of my idea come to life.
