Tossed off late at night
When my brain is not at peak
And I don't have enough left
To make normal conversation
With the normal people going by

This is not a work of art
Not like she is
With her beauty I can't help but see
And her heart that I will always cherish
And the flaws that the artist put in
Just to make her perfections so much more
This is not a work of art
That I would ever like
To compare her to
It wouldn't be fair

It is a joy to be able to say
That she is beautiful and mean it
And it is a joy to see her at times
When I need some beauty in my life again
But it is pain to be able to say it
All the while my words won't be heard
I cannot lie
But even the truth is a lie
When it is not believed

This is not a work of art
Not like she is
But it is part of my greatest joy
And part of my greatest pain
The whole of which I will always feel
