I saw this movie one time where the guy jumps off a roof onto a horse...it seems, er...haphazard.I've always found saddle horns fairly impractical, though I'm sure they have some use other than providing crude humor, hee...
Wierd perspective experiment in first panel, not sure the entire comic...flows...
Hopefully it's get-able.

The horn of a western saddle is used by cowboys and farmhands as sort of a, a place where they can wrapped the hand end of their lassos in order to be able to job off the horse and deal with a more restrained bovine. Nowsadays it is often used by newbie riders because of the extra security i gives (ie a something to grab onto if you begin to fall or the horse decides to run away with you). The style originated in Spain and spread as the Spainards conquered and traded. Thus it has become common in most places even if the Spainsh had never been there.
I prefer the hornless English style, becaus I'm alway afraid that the horse will do something to throw me forward and I could cause internal bleeding htting the horn..

When I did ranch work as a teenager, we would rope cows and tie the end of the lasso off to the saddle horn to keep the bigger ones from yanking us off the horse.

i ride horses and sadle horns are only on western sadles so i dont use them much but theyr prety handy for placing items there like the reins,crop ect.
