This character was actually re-introduced in Loz:OoA; you could drop bombs in on him, and those magical seeds too. He'd have a different reaction for each one. (Except the gale seed, you can't drop that one in there.)
He wanted paper again, and if you gave him some, he'd give you a 'stink bag' in return, which you later trade for a piece of meat.
What's worse, you NEEDED to do this to get the game's sword upgrade.

Oh My Gosh. When I went into the room for the first time and that hand popped out, I was like "Crap!" and made Link bolt out of the room, almost out of the hall. But then I snuck back to the doorway and peeked in. It was gone. Itook a few steps in when it appeared again. I backed away then it disappeared. I managed to talk to it then I was like "Oh, okay." And I....accidently gave the letter. >_< I had to rewind time to get it back.

That's hilarious. I didn't know about Japanese toilets at the time and had no idea what was going on and why there was a hand thing in the hole thing. Didn't think to give it the letter.
And watching him hold his crotch when the hand pops out here... all I can think of is "after that experience, I'll bet he totally didn't have to go anymore." Think about it. He grabs himself and then isn't seen from waist down anymore... gotta admit it'd be a rather reasonable reaction.
