Description
Ben Grimm was a pilot of an experimental vehicle designed and build by his old school friend Professor Reed Bruttenholm. The vehicle was supposed to be able to travel almost instantaneously to any point in space by travelling through an 'adjacent dimension' that Reed had discovered. Along for the ride were Reed, Ben, Reed's partner Abraham 'Abe' Storm and Abe's sister Elizabeth (Lizzy). But the vehicle wasn't shielded well enough against the beings in the other dimension and when the four travellers returned to earth they found themselves merged, both mentally and physically, with creatures from the now named 'Hell Dimension'. Ben found himself transformed into a creature that appeared to be made of Rock and magma and on seeing him Lizzy described him as 'Some kind of Hell Thing!' and the name stuck. The 4 decided, while Reed searched for cures for all of them, to form the BFRD or Bureau for Fantatastic Research and Defence, and become superpowered protectors of the earth. Ben, while appearing outwardly as a happy go lucky individual, hates his new form and secretly blames Reed for what he has become..he has also started having terrible nightmares filled with a deep, spectral voice screaming "Anung Un Rama."
