_"Once upon a time, your kind was born to a barren human, and for her love of you, she was condemned. They ordered a death sentence on her and meant to slaughter you like a babe at its mother's bosom, but she had known they would come for her children in time, and so she set you free with hope that she had raised you well, as any mother hopes."
_She looked one last time at that defiant child and saw it in his bright eyes, once innocent. A mix of anger and sorrow, but also a determination she had not thought to see. It brought her courage, though he soon disappeared, escaping while she lay dying. It brought her peace.

Ok so first off, let me say again that my species are not anthros of any sort. They are genetic modifications of wild animals, some whose extinct species were recreated (like the saber toothed tiger, namely). Specifically, the intermediate species were the first ones created, grown in test tubes, so to speak, and they were made to produce the final product, my Libera species (if you know my characters Saker, Jockey, Justin, etc, then you've seen the species, even if my drawing and anatomy skills were inadequate at the time). I've been working on these guys for years, because their story is one of science fiction, whether it seems so or not.

This particular baby of mine is one of the first, if not the actual first (I havent decided, since I havent actually written it yet) that were created in a secret project when the scientist (their mother) was supposed to just be bringing important extinct or near-extinct animals back to life. The intermediate species are called Initium (and they happen to have the prettiest eyes if i do say so myself). They are relatively intelligent and creative thinkers, even capable of some human speech and writing/reading or simple math if you went so far to try teaching them. They are very odd in all aspects, and thats the best way I can describe them.
