Well, 2 points. Β
#1. Why call it "Legend of Zelda" when Link is the main character and Zelda is just a side character in some games?
#2. Β "Metroid" in the Chozo language means "ultimate warrior". Β Samus was trained by the Chozo and went on to become the best bounty hunter in the galaxy, or the ultimate warrior. Β Take that into consideration, and Samus can indeed be given the title of "Metroid".
And if #2 doesn't blow your mind, I don't know what will.

Oh, and you missed an even bigger mindblow with Samus:
In Metroid Fusion, she was injected with Metroid DNA (Apparently enough of it to kill her when she's in cold places and to absorb X parasites on touch). Samus is, literally, part Metroid.
