Description As Kara enjoyed her daily morning jog, she decided to try a change of scenery.  Instead of the paved path that normally loops back around to her house, she turned left and took a less travelled road.  She didn't know where it leads, but she wasn't in any type of hurry.  A few minutes later, she came across a clearing with a big, open lake.  Kara wrinkled her brow, she's lived here for 5 years, how had she never seen this lake before?

A light fog grazed the surface of the water, churning invitingly.  Kara was alone, and this place was so peaceful and serene.  She felt relaxed almost as soon as she entered the clearing.  She was particularly drawn to the water, and she walked tensely across the wooden dock.  She wanted to touch it, to dip her feet.  She nervously looked around to make sure nobody was around.  As far as she could see, which admittedly wasn't far due to the mist, she was alone.

Kara stood, removed her shorts, panties, shoes, and socks, and set them softly on the pier next to her.  She felt a chill on her legs, and felt goosebumps forming, but she didn't want to pass up on this opportunity.  For some reason, this water was more alluring to her than even the beach, and Kara could resist no longer.  Biting her lip, she sat on the edge, extended her legs, and lowered them.  The pier was tall enough so that only her toes could reach the water, but it was enough.

With a sigh of relief, Kara relaxed her legs and feet, and allowed them to revert to their natural state.  It felt soothing, particularly because her muscles were still a little sore from jogging.  She felt almost entranced by the transformation as her legs merged together into a tail.  The tips of her fin hung low enough to dip in the water, but she wanted to be fully submerged.

As Kara scooted closer, readying herself to dive in, the fog began to lift.  In a moment of disbelief, she could now see that not only was there another pier to the lake, but it was just a stone's throw away.  What's worse, there were people on that pier.  They were looking at her.

At first, Kara didn't know what to do.  Her tail was too freshly formed to be able to turn back into legs, she'd need another couple minutes at least.  Furthermore, her fin was wet, and in order to dry it she'd have to use her shorts as a towel, but that would leave her bottomless, since then the shorts themselves would be too wet for her to wear safely.

The other people, it looked to be two men and a woman, were now staring and pointing at Kara the mermaid.  It would be disastrous if they got closer and were able to identify her.  These people could be her neighbors for all she knew.  She only had one choice, and with a final shove, she pushed herself off the pier and dove down below the murky surface of the lake, where she could wait out the people, and search for a way to get home safely.
