Biography
Forge was raised among his Native American people and trained as a shaman and medicine man by his teacher Naze, but his mutant power to intuitively create new technology caused him to stray from his mystic teachings and strained his relationship with Naze. Forge eventually left the village to join the military and served in Vietnam. During the war his men were ambushed and killed, and in his anger Forge called on his mystic training to open a portal to another dimension and release a swarm of demons on his enemies. Horrified by what he'd done and having no other way to close the portal, Forge called in an airstrike on his position. The explosions closed the portal and destroyed the demons, but also cost Forge an arm and a leg. Forge would replace his lost limbs with cybernetic ones and used his mechanical and inventive skills to aid the X-Men on many occasions after they helped him defeat an ancient demon called the Adversary. He was in a long relationship with Storm, almost proposing to her, but their relationship grew strained and he temporarily left the team. After the events of M-Day depowered most of the Earth's mutants, Forge became increasingly obsessed with reversing the effects and locating new mutants. Driven mad by his isolation and obsession, Forge accidentally unleashes an other-dimensional invasion on Earth. The X-Men break into his lab to stop the invasion, destroying the facility in the process while a mentally broken Forge stays behind. Though he was believed to be dead he has recently resurfaced working with Cable, who had used his psychic powers to heal Forge's insanity and restore his mind.
