BEAUTIFUL PERFECT STUNNING FLAWLESS ETC. I loved him from the minute I saw him, and if his evolutions are half as good, I think this guy will turn out to be my favorite grass starter since Chikorita. Like everyone else, I'm just a bit disappointed that it's another grass-lizard, but then again, I never cared hugely for the Treecko line, Tsutaja is shaping out to be everything I wanted from Treecko and more...8__8UGHKLSDHF I LOVE HIS HAUGHTY SNOUT, I just know I'm going to succumb to temptation and end up naming mine something stupid like Snidely or Percival or Sassypants or Draco Malfoy
as for the other two:
Fire's design is a little bit bland, but it's cute, I like the color scheme and the bandana look to its ears and head, teehee. Plus I can't envision it evolving into anything other than a massive flame boar, so that's a plus
Water...I desperately want to like (sea otters!), but I find its body shape and overall design awkward plus the fact that the thing on its tummy doesn't say "shell" to me so much as "flaccid male member"...wow I'm a horrible human being.
I think it has potential, though, so I'm gonna give it time...!

i keep wondering what happened to Pokemon designs... they just keep going downhill. though i admit these new starters aren't too bad. really the starters have remained relatively ok throughout. still... i can't like any of them as much as the originals (though i admit the Gold/Silver/HG/SS starters and maybe these would be the first to make me consider not taking the fire starter).

idk, I personally disagree. While gen 1 is still my personal favorite design-wise, I think nostalgia clouds our judgment a lot. Gen 2 is ~my absolute favorite~ in most aspects, but in retrospect, I actually think it has the most bland designs overall (c'mon, Pineco?), and while gen 3 gets picked on for flops like Luvdisc, I think there's a bunch of great underrated Pokemon in that bunch. And gen 4 suffers more in concept than execution, imo--I love a lot of the designs from that era, I'm just disappointed in how many of them are evos/pre-evos or legendaries.

i guess... and gen 2 isn't bad. i think up to that and a few odds n ends from gen 3 i'm ok with. but i don't think it's just nostalgia for me, i generally just dislike the designs of the newer pokemon. not all of them are bad but i don't care for the vast majority.

I don't get the water otter's colors. The white head with the (ugliest shade of) blue body just makes him feel uneven to me. I get the impression that the pig is part fighting (I'm glad you saw the bandana thing) and the otter is part ice..? That's the only way I could accept such shoddy colors.

I don't really mind the otter's colors, but I agree, the white head is really distracting! It just screams "snowman", unless that's what they were going for, which is a little too cutesy for my tastes...

It's the difference between legitimately cute and "cutesy." Cute things: Clefairy, hamsters, inanimate objects that look like they have faces. Cutesy things: bad Hello Kitty ripoffs, most children's toys made for girls.
