Description
*A story for the night*It seemed like an ordinary evening. After a busy week, my lover suggested that we relax a little, take a break from the daily routine and take a walk in the woods, which happened quite often. We lived on the very outskirts of the village, and the mighty forest breathed right into our backs. That evening we penetrated to the very depths of it. We wandered along long-forgotten trails, inhaled the freshness of coolness mixed with the scent of fallen leaves and dampness, enjoyed the walk and each other... until we heard that sound.
This sad and heart-rending howl, coming from somewhere far away and piercing us right into our hearts. It sounded like thunder all over the forest, from all sides. A mysterious pale-faced fog began to rapidly envelop the space. Without hesitating for a second, we turned around and rushed back, away from the sound that made us feel an irresistible horror. Several times I fell, tripping over twisted roots sticking out of the ground, but the feeling of fear that pursued me forced me to move on. At some point I realized that I was lost, and turned around to see if my lover was nearby, but he was nowhere to be seen. I was rushing around at the very exit from the forest, not knowing what to do next.
It was already getting light. The sun threw the first rays on the crowns of the trees. The fog was slowly creeping away somewhere deep, into the dense depths of its owner. I left the forest and went out into a spacious clearing, from where I began to call my lover, but only my own echo answered me. After futile attempts, silence fell...
Suddenly I heard a soft sad howl behind me. It was growing rapidly, making me tremble with fear. I turned around abruptly, and suddenly a strong gust of chilling wind swept through me. This moment lasted for an eternity. It permeated my whole body, to the very soul, and roared in my ears. That howl...No, a scream! Like an immortal song of suffering and sorrow, consisting of a thousand voices. Among them I recognized one that was painfully familiar to me....
