Description ~ G.POV ~

The three of us piled into Frank’s car; Frank and me in front and Amanda in the back. A minute or two after we exited the Olive Garden parking lot, Frank was the first to speak.
“Hey Amanda, do you want us to swing by your house, or apartment, or whatever? To get you some pajamas and clothes for the morning?”
“Uhh…yeah” The smile faded from Amana’s face as she answered.
    “What’s up?” I asked.
    “What do you mean?”
“I mean why the sudden mood change?”
“I am a woman ya know. It’s called a period, silly.” Amanda tried to escape the truth.
“You should be an actress,” I broke the silence, “I almost believed you a second ago. Almost. Now seriously, what’s up?”
“Well today, after I said something to the cook, I um….lost my job.”
“What!?!?!” Frank and I yelled. After Frank pulled over, he and I both peered into the backseat to see Amanda’s eyes glued to the ground.
“Do you two always talk in unison?”
“Why were you fired!?!?” Frank and I spoke again, simultaneously.
“I’ll take that as a yes, and it’s because my boss doesn’t understand what it means to help a friend out a little…. It’s probably cause he doesn’t have any.” Amanda replied bitterly. She paused. “I got it!” Her mood picked up a bit. “You two are on the same brainwave because you’re fraternal twins that were conjoined at the head and then separated at birth!”
“So do all fraternal twins sleep together these days?” Frank joked.
“Well when they’re babies they normally share a crib and.........oh.” Amanda blushed, finally getting Frank’s drift. “Sorry, I didn’t make the connection.”
    “It’s all cool.” We laughed
“Hehe. Sometimes I wonder why I’m not a blond.”
I was beginning to think that Amanda should be a blond myself, but right then I was just glad she didn’t throw herself out of the car when she figured out that Frank and I were together. It would have been easy for her to follow in the footsteps of many others before her and start screaming insults like ‘fagot’ and ‘homos’, but she simply accepted us. And for me and Frank, that meant a lot.
We got to Amanda’s apartment about ten minutes later and we were back on the road within another fifteen. This abbreviated visit was probably due to the fact that Amanda’s only belongings consisted of a few pairs of jeans, a couple hoodies, and some band tee’s; her favorite CD’s, and her art supplies. She might not have had many possessions but her taste in music was fabulous.
As Amanda was packing up all her things I questioned her. “So where are you gonna go?”
“I don’t know.” She responded honestly. “With my luck I’ll probably end up living on the streets.”
Though she said it with a smile, the seriousness in Amanda’s voice scared me.
“Well I’m probably gonna move in with Frank soon and my brother Mikey hates to be alone,” I paused and Frank walked in. A curious grin appeared on his face as he watched Amanda’s smile grow in anticipation. “So maybe you could keep him company?” I finished only to be given a breath stopping bear hug by Amanda.
    “ThankyouthankyouthankyouTHANKYOU!!!!!!!!” She exclaimed with excitement.
“Well it’s the least I can do.” I said.
“Yeah, we did get you fired. Anyways,” Frank went on, “isn’t that what friends are for?”
Amanda then gave Frank a hug quite similar to the one I had received, and we headed back outside. The ride back to Frank’s house was silent yet not awkward, but apparently Amanda doesn’t like silent.
“So,” She began, “can you introduce me to your brother tonight? I’m not trying to be pushy but if I’m gonna live with the guy.”
“That’s a very good point.” Frank said passing his driveway.
“Well that’s Frank’s house.” I pointed to my hoped-to-be home. That thought made me smile: my home. No mine and Frankie’s home, our home. Or so I hoped.
“Ahh. So you are going to Gerard’s house now.” Amanda interrupted my daydreams.
“Technically, it’s Mikey’s and your house now….that is, if Gerard will move in with me.” Frank directed this question at me.
“I’d love to.” I smiled and gave him a small kiss on his cheek. As I made this small but reassuring gesture, I heard a camera click and Frank let out a held breath.
I’ll never forget that moment; Amanda taking our picture to document our relationship and love, and Frank letting out that long held breath while he whispered those wonderful words, “Thank God.” Now I’m no a religious freak, but he wasn’t thanking God for life or fortune or fame, he was thanking God for me.
Not a minute later we were walking the front steps to Mikey’s house; Frank and I hand in hand, and Amanda not far behind.
“Hey Mikes!!!” I yelled for my little brother.
“Oh, hi Gerard.” Mikey smiled descending the steps to greet us. “What a nice…” Mikey stopped dead in his tracks and turned a pale white as his eyes met Amanda’s, and the color seemed to be drained from her face as well.
“Amanda?” Mikey asked still staring in awe. Amanda just nodded.
“Now I’m no genius” I said.
“But I’m guessing there’s some history here.” Frank finished for me.
“Well at college,” Mikey started his story, his eyes stuck on Amanda. “about a month ago, I had a roommate, and well…we talked and hung out for like a week….” He trailed off.
Amanda then picked up right where Michael had ended, “And then we just…connected…and um…well we shared the same interests, including an…attraction to each other and…..” At that point both Mikey and Amanda turned new shades of red and me and Frank had had enough of this awkward conversation.
“Well then, I guess Mikey will have more pleasures than nice company.” I teased.
“Shut up!” Mikey said “It was one time.”
“So does that mean…” Amanda once again trailed off.
“No! I mean it was amazing and I still like you and if you want we could stay together but… I mean… we don’t have to, I mean…”
Thankfully, Amanda cut my spaz of a brother off with a quick kiss on the lips. Mikey responded by lacing their fingers together and smiling excitedly.
“Well this is weird.” I stated.
“Wanna make it weirder, captain obvious?” Frank asked.
“Do you have a suggestion soldier?” I said in a deep, army commander voice.
Frank responded by stealing a kiss from me, grabbing my ass, and taunting Mikey,
“My bitch is hotter than yours.”
“And what makes you think that?” Mikey challenged.
“It’s gay love. It’s kinky.” Frank smiled mischievously.
    “Well…”
“Wait, why am I the bitch?” I asked cutting off Michael before we all burst into laughter.
When we finally caught our breath there was a long debate about who was really the bitch. It was a long fought battle that exposed every feminine aspect about both of us, but in the end Frank was the bitch.
We then proceeded to make smores as we talked about our careers and my new song. Our conversation continued long into the night and Frank eventually convinced me to sing my song for Michael and Amanda the next day. The only reasons I agreed were cause he gave me puppy dog eyes and he said he would accompany me on his guitar.
The night ended with Frank and I curled up in my old room and Mikey and Amanda in Mike’s. When I nodded off there were images of our soon-to-be-band running free in my mind, and I couldn’t help but wonder what life’s like outside of Jersey.
