Wow…what a lovely message…

However, I'll be honest. When I first saw this (and din't yet read the description), I actually saw the red as fire, or bloodshed, and the blue as Earth itself, water, life.

I thought that it was more of that war and bloodshed and such was eventually going to take over the world, corrupting it, and that we needed to end it before it was too late.

I was really wrong… =_=

But still, despite my bungled interpretation, lovely picture!

This is gorgeous! I think the biggest problem is greed....a lot of companies pollute b/c it's cheaper to dump toxic waste into the ground than to properly dispose of it. Not enough people and not enough powerful people care to make a difference...it sucks!

and I think it's good to save environment.
Earth might survive us, as some pointed out, but I think it would be nice if humankind wouldn't needed being extinct and we could live to enjoy the beauty of the nature as it is a little longer and with pure hearts
.. anyways. pretty picture

The art is fantastic, but the message is just...

Well, let's put it this way, and I hope you actually read it: [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

PeregrineStudios In reply to AgentParsec [2011-12-08 03:33:05 +0000 UTC]

I would just like to say that I did read it, and while it has some lovely things to say, it is working off a false precedent.

Never before in the history of the planet has there been a species as innovative, as wide-reaching, as self-absorbed, and as ultimately destructive as the human race. Humans are unlike anything the Earth has encountered before.

Permit me to quote a famous movie character who, nonetheless, has something very interesting to say: 'Every mammal naturally establishes a level of equilibrium with its environment, but humans do not. You settle somewhere... and you multiply, until you have consumed every natural resource, before moving on to the next area.'

Can we literally, physically, destroy the planet, as in blow it up? Probably not, or not yet anyway - though somebody is probably drawing up plans for a bomb big enough to do just that as we speak. But humans have reached an unprecedented plateau in evolutionary history. We collectively inhabit basically the entire planet, minus the poles, we are overpopulated enough to consume vast quantities of resources, and we are innovative enough to find all kinds of new uses for resources we never knew we had. Dinosaurs, mammoths, and neanderthals never knew how to use fossil fuels or nuclear power. We do, and we use them indiscriminately, polluting the water, the soil, the very air we breathe without care.

The dinosaurs were wiped out, it is theorized, by a series of Supervolcano eruptions, or a meteor strike, or a (very cool) new theory called a Verneshot that combines both, in addition to the various other theories dealing with starvation and spread of disease. Millenia from now, when some distant ancestor of the human race examines our remains and has to determine what cataclysmic event wiped out nearly every form of life on the planet, he'll eventually settle on our own idiocy in depleting all our resources, farting the leftovers into the air, then breathing them in on a regular basis.

To summarize, no, we may not end all life on the planet forever, but we'll certainly kill ourselves and good chunk of the species of flora and fauna living alongside us. And you know what, no matter how you slice it, that's just plain bad.

AgentParsec In reply to PeregrineStudios [2011-12-08 05:47:48 +0000 UTC]

But you just agreed with me, and with the clip I mentioned. The EARTH is not in danger, WE are in danger. Therefore, to claim we're "saving the Earth" is ridiculous; we're just saving ourselves, and people should just come right out and say it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PeregrineStudios In reply to AgentParsec [2011-12-08 05:52:13 +0000 UTC]

WE are in danger - along with every other animal and plant that exists alongside us. Along with the earth, which we are filling with waste and garbage that will not decompose for thousands of years, or even never, dealing damage the whole time.

If you refer to 'the earth' exclusively as the physical dirt on which we stand, then we are nonetheless dealing extraordinary damage to it. If, like most of us, you extend 'the earth' to include the atmosphere, the oceans, and all the life that inhabits it, then we are dealing cataclysmic destruction to it every day.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AgentParsec In reply to PeregrineStudios [2011-12-08 08:22:13 +0000 UTC]

It's clear at this point that you have no idea what you're talking about, since you're tossing around words like "cataclysmic" without an understanding of what a cataclysm really is. Therefore, it's pointless to continue this debate, especially considering that this isn't the place to do it. Please, for respect of the artist at least, let it drop.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PeregrineStudios In reply to AgentParsec [2011-12-08 15:44:01 +0000 UTC]

You tell me I have 'no idea what I'm talking about', after telling the artist that their message is wrong, and then have the nerve to talk about respect? People like you make me laugh. When I make a series of intelligent remarks, and the only thing you manage to find fault with is my choice of adjective, then you really have no valid argument to make. I'm sick of people like you with their heads up their arses parading around their ideology that humanity can't do anything to the planet, just so you don't feel guilty about your lifestyle.

That's my final word on this. You wanted to slink away and hope nobody would notice that you didn't have a single valid argument to make - and you failed. By all means, leave it now, 'for the respect of the artist', of course.

AgentParsec In reply to PeregrineStudios [2011-12-08 16:41:17 +0000 UTC]

I see you couldn't resist stoking your own ego once more without providing your own valid arguments. Very well, end of discussion.
