Description
I made this for our event over at Pixelbrush (Myths). I made this more as a drawing, rather than painting, and it was fun not messing around with colours, or tiny details for once. This is Cthulhu himself. As I'm a big Call of Cthulhu buff, and never got the chance to paint the dude yet, I gave this a go, just for fun.
You can see the progress steps in my event-topic here: [link]
Made using Photoshop CS2, and a Wacom Intuos tablet.

this is fantastic! my husband has about 30 different CoC modules and we have 4 or 5 more Cthulu based games. we just played munchkin cthulu on saturday. yes, we're a bunch of gaming dorks. i'll admit it. if you made this a print, i'd SO buy it for him. consider it...

Cool, I haven't tried actually playing the CoC card game, and even though we have Arkham Horror, with 3 extra expansions, we always play it without the expansions as it's already very complex, hehe. There's a new expansion coming for Arkham horror this summer where I made the board, and both my and my girlfriend will be actual playable characters. This is almost too cool for a CoC fan as myself, hehe.
By the way, funny you should mention it. The drawing is available as a print now

hurray! i'm going to have to get at least one. i was talking about the role playing game call of cthulu. ever play that? it's pretty darn scary! my husband likes to run the ones set in dunwich or innsmouth. deep ones abound!!!
we tried playing arkham horror but there were so many pieces and we were all a few shiner bocks to the wind, so it was to no avail!
the expansion sounds so very cool! i can't believe you actually made the board! that's just beyond cool!

We're playing pen & paper role-playing campaigns every week, and we've played Call of Cthulhu several times. We're currently playing another one, which will probably end any time now, hehe. It's great, but I hate how friggin' dangerous it is to fight in that system, hehe. Encountering a normal dude with a knife can be fatal, especially if you're coming directly from D&D, where fighting is what it's all about, lol.

I asked them to remove me from the mass emailing thingie. That's one of the things I found kinda annoying, that they preferred this emailing solution to having some kind of forums. Oh well, good to hear that you're comfortable there, I'll keep my eyes open for productions :-D

I had a hard time getting used to the email thingy, but I am used to it now. I am still very confused on who is who though I am learning. I helped with a few productions, made some particles for the Challenger Deep one, transparent bubble things and some other little protozoa kind of stuff. I really like these guys and am happy you made that post in PB about them, brings out the geek in me ... they do have a strange goat obsession though

So, the Cthulhu himself.
I didnΒ΄t know much about him (I still donΒ΄t), but now I have and idea of his looks. I knew he was a "sea creature" but I thought he was kinda man-size, not this huge monster!
This art is just awesome! ItΒ΄s great to see your level of technique in greys.
I pay a special attention to the details, and the water, the boat and that splattering wave are just something!
And yeah, the big guy is scary!
Must collect!
Big cheers and huge congratulations!

I don't think Lovecraft explains too much about him in his stories either. I believe no one even sees him in the story, just some lore being told or something. Never the less, here he is, awaken from his slumber, slightly pissed :-D
Thanks a lot!

Dude, this is some sick work! Such detail...honestly, I'm a little creeped out by, well, IT. But still, the rest of it turned out fairly excellent, and matched to scale (big monster, small boat, vast scenery). Amazing stuff this is.

wow. just. wow.
I know that's not helpful for a critique or anything, but honestly, I think color would have contaminated the pure power of Cthulhu. Very nice portrayal. It definitely shows the scale of the monster.

Frickin' sweet! Finally got 'round to reading a Lovecraft anthology with Call of Cthulu in it and I dug it alot. Figured I might do a pic of the statue, as it was described in great detail, but this goes well beyond anything I could do. Am reading At the Mountains of Madness next, maybe that'll inspire something. Good job, man!

I love how you seem to be implimenting more and more of an artistic side in your pictures. Not that the others weren't artistic, but this looks almost like something you would do for yourself, and not just another professional piece. Love it.
