Description
link to all episodes rated: docs.google.com/document/d/1Rf…This show at first didn't impress me much because of the slow and rough pilot, but after I got past that this show became VERY enjoyable! This show centers around the friendship between these two women Tuca and Bertie and them dealing with trauma and anxiety in the current age in the city. This show has such charming characters and atmosphere and I really like the surreal tone and storytelling. I can see people describing this show as politically "woke" (god I hate that term) but I believe it is done well in the series. Like, the show has a lot of touchy subjects but they know how to treat them well, like, the show doesn't blame all the men for sexual harassment in the workplace. This show's comedy isn't my favorite aspect or anything but outside of the pilot it is mostly fine and can be funny. But I like the show more for its character development and stories.
Sadly I think the show went through a seasonal rot in its last season, season 3. This season is mostly fine, I mean if you judge it by the episodes individually they are good, but as a final product this season left me underwhelmed. There was hardly any growth this season. Seasons 1 and 2 had progression, season 3 only has snippets of it. Tuca getting a new boyfriend off screen is so weird after what happened with Kara and I wish they explored more of the regretful decisions. Season 3 has a bigger focus on Figgy but because we don't know him very well, I could care less about him. It's weird the show acknowledges him and his problem with alcohol more than Tuca being a recovering alcoholic. This season to me just focused too much on the lesser important things and the stuff that has full potential to tackle they just ignore it. This season didn't matter much for Tuca. They still show a lot of Bertie though, which just makes me even more mad! Season 2 did a wonderful job saying that just because their trauma isn't the same doesn't mean one trumps the other. Bertie has too much, and Tuca has too LESS.
Would have been nice if this was renewed for a season 4 but because of the controversy with Tiffany Haddish… don't think that's happening. This is sad even if I didn't LOVE season 3, but the last episode "the mole" was actually pretty good and I suppose it's a fine way to close this show. Overall this show is GOOD. I really liked the first two seasons and while it is sad it got canceled, at least it ended on a good note.
