I love the perception of distance that you've added to this photo.. maybe that is what you would call depth. the artwork itself is lovely, but the fact that her fin that is closest to us is almost as large as her body in comparison- makes me feel like I am at the base of her tail fin, as though I could almost reach out and learn what a mermaid's tail would feel like in real life

I love everything about this! Man where to start...
The Merune is beautifully rendered. She has a visual weight to her...like her tail looks heavy. I also love the texturing on the scales and how wet the part of the tail closest to us looks.
I also love how you rendered the water. I love how it's both shiny and translucent and you have a very natural blend from the shallow surf to the deeper waters.
I also love the composition as a whole. The dark rock really helps her body stand out, and the way it arches over keeps her tail from leading the eye off the edge. And her hair is almost like a web that catches your eye as you reach the end of the tail and brings it back to her face again.
I wish I could render like you.
